    Default Worm farms

Well here I am asking questions again.

I've just sold my worm cafes and built a big bugger of a worm farm from an old IBC.

But I think I've stuffed up a bit by following some directions and inspiration found on line [ and they have a facebook page too but I won't link here] and I have a feeling that it is going to be too damned big in the short term.

I need some tricks and tips on making what worms I have in there "Hot to Trot" and fast to Breed, I need some fast breeder tips, how can I turn my worms into little slender love machines and get the numbers up to where can toss 10 kilos of coffee grounds and vegetable scraps a month and turn that into valuable worm juice as fast as possible?

Also your thoughts on using small amounts of wood ash and calcined animal bones into the worm farm on a regular basis?

When we have a BBQ all the chicken and spare rib bones get processed in the fire so the mix is going to be alkaline to a degree but hopefully moderated somewhat by the bones which should provide some extra calcium over and above the egg shells

I bought a half kilo of extra worms from Bunnings but I don't think that is anywhere near enough wrigglers and I don't want to give the Great Big Green Shed any more money than I have to.

    G'day Moondog

Good on you for posting. I know nothing about the wiggly little buggers so can't help you.

But will send you a phone number to a mate of mine Big Stan) who's wife was prolific at bottling and selling "Aunt Noelsies Worm Wee"

Reckon he or she might be able to help out.

Phone number should be in your PMs in the next few minutes

    Cheers - Neil

Apparently I have been doing almost everything right. Worms take quite while to get used to a new environment and will not start breeding until then and I haven't started with enough worms.
I am going to have to fork out money for another couple of thousand of the little buggers.
If I put in an order today they get packed and posted on a Monday; and I'll deal directly with the breeder and not give Bunnings any more profit on these

I just got onto Diggory Worms who supply Bunnings here in Victoria and I can order directly and $100- gets me a full 2 kilos of worms. This is about a quarter the cost of buying packs from Bunnings. Mainly because they ship direct and with minimal bedding and no food in the box so they need to go into the worm farm immediately they get here

You should make Bunnings price match, just for fun

For some reason Diggory Worms just do not answer their emails, making an arrangement to buy a bulk quantity via text message on a phone is fine until you actually try and place an order

No custom orders tho, and because postage by Express Post is such a high component of the cost per box if you go bigger it is supposed to cost less per worm. I was offered 2kg of worms for only an extra $25-
Although even $75- is a better deal than the cost via Bunnings according to the WormFarmer himslf
