It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Issatree (Lewis) over night. After a short battle with an aggressive cancer he finally circumed last night.
He was a very proud member of many clubs related to wood or tools and was an avid woorturner and collector of old chisels which he would restore to add to his collection. He was very passionate about any of his hobbies and was always full of information about different events that were coming up right across his state of Victoria. After his retirement many years ago he would travel numerous kilometers to attend anything related to wood.He was always one of the first to offer anytime there was a call for someone to demonstrate turning at an event.
He was an active contributor to these forums always offering his advice (sometimes cryptic) and never forgot to use his pun on the word "would", always spelling it "wood" to keep in with the theme. He was also a great promoter of our local agricultural show in October each year of which his wife was actively involved.
He will be sadly missed by our club the Barwon Valley Woodwrights.

That's terribly sad news. Deaths are bad enough at any time but so close to Christmas makes the news more solemn. I only knew him as a contributor here but he would always have positive advice on all kinds of subjects.

I've had the privilege of knowing Lewis. I met him as a turner demonstrator at our wood turning club, at events in Tooraddin and the WWW Shows.

Always a true gentlemen and an inspiration to me.

He will be sadly missed.

I met Lewis at one of the HTPAA tool sales when they were at Hawthorn. A gentleman. I'm sorry to hear of his passing, condolences to his family and friends.

Very sad news.

I enjoyed Lewis's contributions to the forums.

I knew him from the timber and Working With Wood shows where he manned the HTPAA stand as well as the Forum stand,
not always in the same year but he was always there contributing in his own special and inimitable way.

He came to my Open Shed Day last year, which I think was the last time I saw him.

Condolences to his family and all who knew him.

Certainly not a post that I was looking forward to opening after seeing the title. I first met Lewis in 1996 at a home show at Belmont (Geelong). A super passionate man who loved to share his knowledge. I can still recall to this day how long that we spoke for on that day ..... I even ended up purchasing a pencil cypress corkscrew. To my surprise it only has the timber name written on it in an Artline marker, but not his name. Anybody who knew Lewis would know all about the Artline marker!

It was a few years later that I ran into Lewis again after I joined the Lara Woodworkers - just one of the many clubs that Lewis was a member of. I proud to say that we struck up a strong friendship and I was able to grow on my woodworking journey with the support and encouragement of Lewis.

Unfortunately family life has dramatically reduced the time I can spend on woodwork over the past few years and my contribution to the forums has slowed, and I haven't corresponded with Lewis as much as I would have hoped. As it always happens I was thinking only a few weeks ago that I should shoot off an email to Lewis to see how things are going - and now I am regretting that I didn't. Certainly a larger than life character who will always be remembered.

My condolences to Dot and the family. Hopefully you will get to read this thread Dot. I am sure that it will come as no surprise just how many people admired Lewis. I am sure that he is now catching up with Gavin and looking for the ultimate swap meet or garage sale.
