Start thinking about it

I plan to hold a get together in the next few months up here in Tolmie (North East Victoria).

It will be a whole weekend event. We have some accomodation and tons of room for tents, caravans and campervans.

I'm not a turner but welcome anyone wanting to bring a lathe or two.

If anyone wanted to bring a portable mill, that too would be made welcome.

I have a reasonably sized shed (9X12) equipped for cabinet type work including a few hand tools.

At our place you can run noisier machines like routers, spindle moulders or thicknessers 24 hours a day without even disturbing anyone in the house 80 metres away.

Anyone interested in coming or do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Someone suggested having a group relay construction project - see what we can make and complete in a weekend?

I realise that it is a fair distance for some people to come so I am getting in early with the planning and preparation.

BTW there are a few tourist things to see up here apart from the woodwork.

Is this going to be an official shed-warming? :D

Sure will be.

Getting to our place is quite simple, there is a bus service between Melbourne and Mansfield for those unable to drive. We can pick you up in town.

Dunno, we're a bunch of very ugly blokes who look nothing like our avitars. You could be disappointed, at least hubby won't have to worry. :U

TL, I imagine that for an overnighter there might be one or two who'd have spouses in tow. :)

Sounds like fun Rob. Maybe there is something that could be built for the bushfire areas?

I can tell anyone here its a lovely area, good hosts, and there is a really old fashioned pub in the village. The type where if you are wearing your holster and colt 45 it would not be out of place. :D

The local pub is one of the warmest and friendliest places you could visit.

Not too many places you can still leave your change on the bar without fear of it going walkabouts.

Now the problem for me would be the cold, At the height of summer when I was there I froze so I wouldn't do to well in the middle of winter would I:(

Probably when it's not so cold for the softies Peter. I am just getting ideas so I can prepare if necessary.

Are there enough interested people to have a Woodworking Weekend or would people prefer to make it a one day event, or maybe nobody is interested at all?

TL, that sounds great. We have heaps of space to set up your wheel and the mess won't matter. What do you need for the wheel?

DJ, I am fairly sure they are blackwood (I didn't drop them), if not they will be Black Wattle or Native Cherry. They are approx 1 foot in diam. I also have some much larger Peppermint Gum logs. I shall go you halves if you are interested.

Wish I was closer, I would love another weekend in the wild.:)

I'll put my hand up if I'm not away on holidays - all depends when.

You could always run a drunken dovetail challenge, a la Wongo's.:D

I could bring my Jet Mini if you're so inclined to turn, heck I might even throw the VL300 on board as well :o

Don't think a VL300 will fit in overhead luggage :no: And flying from your joint to Wood Borer's that's pretty extravagant. :D

It might be extravagant, but well worth it for a weekend woodworking party :D If only I could get away from the big project at work :(
