Thieves

Live in a tiny town, so never have got used to locking everything up.

Been making a mantle clock with the skeleton insert, more correctly, made it last week, been Estapoling it all week at the rate of a coat a day.

Gave it a coat this morning, and went upstairs to watch Sandown, went down about an hour into the race and the clock was gone:o

A check of the shed showed nothing else appears to be stolen, also have a good idea where it went, but lacking proof, nothing can be done.

If it was a random thief a lot more items that were laying around would have also gone.


Pretty sad to say that I now know that no-one can be trusted and will lock everything up even if just going upstairs :((

And it had only had a fresh coat an hour before? That sucks. Mongrels.

At least if you can retrieve it the cops should have no problems taking fingerprints... :rolleyes:

I live in suburbia and leave my projects to dry in the driveway, never had one stolen (Though my driveway is a little more "challenging" than most)

That sucks, but as hansp77 says, at least you can take comfort that someone liked your work:2tsup:. Sounds like you might need to investigate the local pawn shop :shrug:

I reckon its someone local thats been watching the work progress and now its about done to the opportunity to rip you off :~ sadly this is not so uncommon in small country towns as it once was... but me I reckon someones been watching and waiting :~

Now this makes me realise that I haven't seen our house keys for over 10 years. But I always know where the car keys are.....In the car!

Aint that the truth Noel, we started renting this place 4 years ago, its over 80 years old the agents gave us keys to both doors and we've never used them or found them again after we moved in. But the truck,ute and wagon all have the keys in all the time which proves a bugga when comming to the big smoke. Take the bl***y keys out & lock the dam thing. Last time car was in major shopping centre 3 hours unlocked and keys in ignition. Think rather know somebody was looking after us that day.

I once left a Nipple Pink Holden Belmont in a car park in Liverpool NSW with the window down, and the keys in it. The car park was famous or notorious for being the place most likely to have your car stolen.
At the end of four days, all I got for my devious plan was a parking ticket!!

Makes me laugh when I hear/read about honest country folk... they're no different to honest city folk.

I do suggest that you report the theft to the Police - most states now have 131444 as a dial-in reporting service. It would help if you had signed the thing somewhere or had a photo - I know, it wasn't finished quite.

Just remember that people who are 'careless' of other people's property have a habit of coming to the attention of the Police for other reasons, and it is always nice to give the Police something extra to speak to them about - who knows, you get the thing back.

If you were feeling malicious, you could always let it slip that the 'P' had recently come into some 'good gear', won a jackpot on the pokies or otherwise had something that their scumbag mates would like to have, then they too can feel your pain, and probably the pain from a few knuckle sandwiches when they didn't produce the goods :B

What affected me most when I got me car broken into, was not the value of theft and damage, but a mental attitude.

I actually saw the guy running away. So every time I came across another that looked like him I was saying under my breath "mongrel bastard!". For the first few months I hated each and every one of them.

No logic to it. Took me ages to get over it.

if you suspect go ask if they saw anyone around and watch the reaction, say your making it for a charity raffle and see if it gets returned.

Its sad when this sort of thing happens, you get a "ripped off" feeling and you cant resist thinking of likely suspects. But its the ****ed world we live in today, lock it or lose it, unfortunately. Theives will even come into your house with you in there these days and dont care two hoots if you spring them in the act. :~ Bring back some REAL deterrent punishments and things might change but while they hand out the gentle wrist slaps in the court nothin's gonna change.

I used to worry about this. It's nice having a dog people are afraid of though. :) You can leave you tools in the driveway when your working on your car, go inside for a bit to fix a drink and whatnot without worrying, if somebody stops or slows for a second look or a quick grab, then the dog laying under the car extends it greetings, the ned(s) then scoot on out to a more friendly place, its nice. The screaming gets on my nerves a bit though, some of these neds scream like little girls. :no: Is it just me or are guys sounding more like girls everyday? Must be all the hormones in the water. :hmm: Some of these clerks at the checkout counter, I know several, nice chaps but they open their mouth and ya about jump outta ya skin and grab aholt of the person beside you for a second or two. :C Nothing they can do about it I suppose, but it sure is strange.
