Maximum One Drivel Thread Per Week
So a poll is needed to see which drivel is kept
This is the 4th one today. :D
Na cliff this is not drivel itsa poll!!!!!
footy theard is no drivel there all highly intellect posts only when them northeners drop in does it drop in standard
Different people have different ideas as to what is meaningful & what isn't... bit like sport. :D
Just proves that footy drivel can get wasted in these forums
ahhh...sweet relief, just found the ignore list button. Never had to use it before, but I cant stand all the bull$hyte:stars: :wacko:anymore:disgust1:....pity, sometimes the people on it make interesting reading, cheers.
See Bob, you too can be ignored. :p
I picked 3 except the footy one.
What? Shut down the whole forum? :D :D :D
Yep.
Totally agree
I'm finding it harder n harder to find intersting threads without having to wade chin deep through pizz n drivel
Why not have a Drivel Room for the drivlers where they can drivel on each other and fill the room up with high jacks n drivel up to their eyeballs :2tsup:
..............................It would be Drivel Nervana where members can drivel into each others mouths up each others noses and in each others pokets. You could even get "I'm A Drivler" on a forum Cap And have an annual award for the thread with the most ridiculas drivel
.................Send each other X-MAs cards splattered with Drivel and create a virtual world of driveldom.
THose that love drivel can hang out in the drivel Room becoming drivel buckets gleefully filling each other up!!!
could it be politely suggested that the drivel be vigerously moderated in the Woodworking sections so that I no long have to drivel on about drivel.
DrivelisedLou2U:doh:
Don't you guys make sawdust any more? All I seem to come across is bulldust.
What about this for a suggestion.
A drivel forum that requires a password exactly the same as the open slather section.......which would also mean it wouldn't show up when you hit 'New Posts'......
any excessive verbal diarrhoea in normal posting is deleted straight up, no questions asked at the mods discretion.
Yup if the abomination of drivel continues to grow at its present rate and remains unchecked I fear we will continue to loose the likes of DPB and other legendary forum members who come here for woodwork related content........................... and are indeed great role models and learning resources for all woodworkers both newbies and vetrans alike
Must admit I am yet to learn anything from drivel other than patience and tolerance!!! This threat to one of the greatest forums in Australian internet history must be addressed .................it is time for us to unite against this foul beast ...................the abomination of drivel must be checked and put in its place
Tis time for the drivel police to come forth
Oh no ............I'm driveling again:-
Tis a disease I say ...............Ban it before we all fall foul to this threat to our beloved Forum
:o:o:o
No need for an extra forum,
just make it compulsory that "DRIVEL" appears in the thread name.
I agree with Peter. Since the Friday thread started the forum has changed so much, and for the worse.
Now we have a big weekly blast of drivel and all other threads are to "stay on topic - no in jokes - no drivel" or else its edited/deleted.
Starting a wood based topic or replying to one now is a waste of time.
I prefered the older threads when their was no Friday rubbish and a mix of all the above in each normal thread posted. Thats what made this a unique forum because they were informative, at times hijaked with drivel and sometimes overflowed with passion and the odd bit of agro arguments. It was great. Now its to sanatised and boring. Lurking is starting to be the prefered option now.
I think Lignum has made a pretty good observation here. It is made worse I think by the new "i Spy", people can keep the drivel flowing a lot faster using that.
Thats what makes it an Aussie Forum. I think a consensus is close in that this is the formula that makes our forum unique.
For god sake Ban the Drivel threads turn the Rep system back to how its used to be (Support it) & endevor to keep a balance ( is a master at this)
Long live our FORUM!
REgards Lou:D:D:D
I would have to agree that the drivel is out of control and detracting from the forum. I started here for all the info which is great but we seem to be veering off course. Self censorship by the drivel brigade might see a bit more humour appearing back in some of the more serious posts.
John.
Well I guess it is a WOOD working forum..........not having much 'puter access time, I get really peed off when a question post is swallowed up by drivel.....then at other times...with bugger all to do...I participate in Quiz Time and Just a joke.......I reckon they are the extent to which I would go for drivel....besides that they give the brain cells a go too!
l think that a unfair statment
l think if its in nothing to do with woodwork we can put up with some banter just not over the top
l also think who ever started the thread should keep control of it if any one starts to drivel or post in a way they don't like they should tell them to stop simple is it not .
so everybody please moderate your oun threads please when it's run its race lock it up
If you start a theard set the tone by repling to other posts on it a good example would be NewLou on finishings
must stop this in fighting ,,oneside has all the power so the winner is obvious a win win is the best outcome
that my view thanks

OK. I'm relatively new to the board, and I post in the Friday drivel. Because it's identified, in the title, I think no one would search it for any 'useful' information. I have not voted in the poll and I reckon the collected drivel one one day a week should be allowed, but also think it will "die a natural" death as Members lose interest.
As to drivel appearing in the more serious threads, I agree it should not overtake the topic under discussion, even when funny - but it shows the Australian sarcasm and wit which supposedly is part of our charm.
So, because I want the more serious posters to continue, I'll read but no longer contribute on Fridays. I do, however, believe the occasional irreverance posted should be accepted.
soth
I find the drivel thread on Friday annoying, not because I read it, but because it clogs up iSpy, There are more drivel posts there on Fridays than anything else and in the end you ignore everything on Friday.
This same point has come through from other comments.
I would like to make a suggestion, let the drivel thread continue, after all it gives a few under-employed blokes something to do on Fridays:rolleyes:, but stop the posts appearing in iSpy.
They can still show in New Posts, as it then appears as one box with the latest post and is easy to ignore.
masoth, two things I'd like to try to clarify for you, but to others also.
The first is that sometimes the drivel threads are returned in searches because they contain key words, not because anyone has searched through them expecting to find something of substance (good luck with that!).
The second thing concerns me because this discussion about drivel is misunderstood. The moderators and admins are NOT that concerned about the general joking and conversation that creeps into threads, although we will try to stop it from hijacking threads or if it is totally off topic.
Drivel is meaningless, is generally not understood by visitors as it can be very "in-house" type "humour" (for want of a better word); sometimes only understood by the participants on that day, and senseless thereafter. It is typically (not always) single words or sentence stubs strung over a number of posts.
We are not trying to sanitise the board to woodwork topic only, the forums have been very successful before and should continue in the same vein. The quick riposte or smartasre comment is not going to be banned. If it spirals into a bunch of comments that detract from the original posters thread then - maybe - it becomes a judgement call at that point.
