Me too, not happy Jan :(
Me three (but Scott knows that already).
A replacement is "on the way" apparently .
It has been "on the way" for over two weeks now. I think they are sending it by carrier pigeon. :(
Me four! :(
and I can't access the website either!
P
Haven't seen mine yet.
I can access the website at least (actually I've already read the mag online anyway. However that is not the point).
When I sent them an email about a month ago now, they did say that they had had "issues" with the mail outs to Oz this time.
If you haven't already, get onot Taunton customer service.
Send them 2 emails in 3 weeks, no reply.
Haven't got it yet, however it seems that when they want money they know how to find me - I got two renewal reminders already, and it's three monthes until my subscription expires.
Me 7, havent seen a Woodworking at Home for a while either?
Me 8, waiting, waiting, waiting
No sign of it as yet :(
Ditto. Haven't received the last two but they took the money out of my credit card already.
Very disappointing, thought they were better than this.
FWIW, this is the reply I received on the 20/09 from Taunton to my email.

Dear Mr. B:
Thank you for your inquiry. After researching your account, I can
confirm that you should have received that issue by now. We have
received reports regarding a delivery issue in Australia and we have
reported that to the proper department to avoid future delays. I
apologize for the inconvenience.
I have ordered a replacement for you. Please let us know if you
continue to experience delivery delays. Thank you for your interest in
Taunton Press publications.
Sincerely,
Kristi

I just sent this:

I wrote a couple of days ago to let you know I haven't received the last two issues of FWW. Since then I have spoken to 8 other subscribers here in Australia and none of them have received the current issue either. The issue is available in newsagents here so what's the problem? I notice that your accounts department has had no similar problem charging my subscription renewal to my credit card. Could you please sort this problem out? It is very disappointing after what I have found in the past to be excellent service.
Ditto - not here yet either
None for me either :(:(
Last year I also did not get the Shop & Tools book until the second time around - replacement took almost 5 weeks :(:(:(
I haven't got mine either :(
A while back I ordered some back issues and when they didn't turn up in a couple of weeks (their delivery is usually very fast) I emailed Taunton. Taunton said I had to wait 12 weeks before I could claim replacements. I waited 12 weeks (Outlook Calendar is your friend) and sent another email and had replacement copies a couple of days later - then the next day the originals arrived!
I emailed Taunton to ask if they wanted me to return the replacements. Taunton suggested I pass them on to a friend. (Talk about difficult, I had to make friends with someone to pass them on  )
You can add my name to the growing list.
WoW
I just had seventeen copies arrive!
Well done FWW
:D
Am I number 18?
I saw it in the shop just a few days ago and did wonder myself what's gone wrong.
..................hmmmmmm................
Y'know, after reading how many have gone a'missin, I kinda expect a ransom demand any minute . . .
My Response below from FWW.
"This e-mail is to confirm that we have experienced shipping problems to Australia. We are told that Fine Woodworking Issue #186 has been arriving late to most Australia subscribers. If at all possible, you may want to purchase this issue at the newsstand and we can extend your subscription an issue to recover that. Our shipping provider has changed and has assured us that the regular receiving schedule will resume starting with Fine Woodworking #187. Please let me know what you would like to do in the meantime, as far as purchasing #186 and I will be happy to extend your subscription."
Not happy.
Kev M
Why not?
I have received the same answer. The things have gone astray in the mail somehow, they'll replace them. What am I missing?
I've asked for a new copy to be sent, (in the event that this one doesn't turn up) and I have pointed out that I don't have access to purchase one, and even if I did the cost would be about the same as 6 months subscription.
I suspect they are all somewhere in a container waiting to arrive.
I can't see that Tauntons show any particular malice in their response? There's been a glitch, they've fixed it and offered to replace the missing magazine.
In six or seven years, I've had one go astray previously and it was replaced. I'm not so desperate that I can't wait a fortnight for the latest sharpening techniques!
Cheers,
P
The midge has spoken again and I agree. We should not be too harsh on them. They are half a world away and 12 hours behind us. It is really beyond their control.
I won't be chasing the newsagent to buy one locally, I'm asking for them to send it to me.
I've had a good run in the past, generally if one fails to arrive, I send an e-mail and a replacement arrives in around 1 week.
Kev M
I am waiting for mine to arrive, no point wasting another one from the newsagent. To fill the void I ordered some back issues :D
I have insisted that they send me a replacement copy. I also recieved same reply that you guys received. In fact, I am pi$$ed off by this whole matter. I have had enough red wine to give them a phone call and $h1t all over them. Promeblem is that by the time they are open in the US, the red wine would have worn off.:D I also have access to the online version, but that is not the point, as ponted out earlier. To add salt to my wound, the Popular WW mag arrived today ahead of time this month. (I think anyway - I lose track of which mag should arrive when), but I do know when FWW should arrive (the last week of every even month).
An unhappy Les.
Someone should tell Taunton's new "shipping provider" that Australia is not a German speaking country located east of Switzerland.
I put it down to dumb Yanks and their abismal knowledge of geography
For the past 30+ years I've subscribed to Scientific American
Sometimes it arrives in Australia as bulk air freight and is posted by TNT at Sydney Airport
Sometimes the magazine is post marked in The Netherlands or Deutschland
Other times it arrives months late from who knows where
But I've never not received a copy
The worst I've had from Taunton is a letter asking if I'd moved because FWW had been returned to the publisher which makes me think It might have got all the way to Austria!!
ian
Ditto FWW for me. PW arrived yesterday.
Regards from Perth
Derek
Me too.
Just emailed them, awaiting there response.
Midge,
Have you received an e-mail to indicate that you will be sent another copy? I have been exchanging e-mails for the past week but to date have not been successful in getting a replacement sent.
Below is the text of an e-mail I sent yesterday morning (no response received yet):-
Hi Customer Service,
We seem to be going around in circles on your response(see first & last below), somewhere in between Kristi's first response and Elizabeth's last response was an offer from Elizabeth to replace my undelivered copy of # 186.
I then responded to this offer with a yes please do, but then received a cut & paste of the original e-mail from Kristi, but signed off by Elizabeth.
Can you please send a replacement #186 to replace my undelivered copy?
Kev M
Not being a subscriber I cant really comment on FWW... but with regards magazines coming from the USA I have subscribed to Woodenboat among others for several years now... not picking on Woodenboat per se they just seem to be the best at this caper and why I no longer subscribe
It was not unusual for it to turn up late by several weeks
It was also not unusual for it to have traveled around the world to get here
And it was also not unusual for me to get several of the same issue that have been sent to someone else in NZ Queensland or Argentina!! and here I mean really does a Swedish name in a Swedish city with a large word on the cover saying SWEDEN sound like Australia?
best "score" was a year back when I got 7 issues of the same issue and only 1 was mine... I onsent them to their rightful owners overseas... but thats really not the point is it!
oh and I didnt get offered a extra phart for doing so either let alone a month on my subscription... as good as it is and as much as I enjoy it Ive cancelled my subscription... Now I have a read at the newsagent if theres something particular I want to take closer scrutiny of I will buy it if not then I put it back on the shelf... easy as... and no more dramas!
Maybe thats your choice if your sick of the wait and dramas trying to sort it? Simply cancel the subscription and take a long peak at the newsagent buy it or not your choice... easy eh! ;)
I have now had some success, received an e-mail overnight advising that a replacement copy but to allow 10-12 weeks for delivery.
Kev M
Yep!
As has been the case with all my dealings with Taunton, I received a response within twenty four hours.
Regarding the lack of Geography, for ten years I was a franchisee of a well known Seppo Chain. Just one of the great annoyances was their insistance on sending us their weekly "domestic" newsletter. These would be sent from anywhere in the world, they would obviously air freight pallets of pre-addressed magazines to Bellarus or Chile or wherever air mail was cheap that week, and have some bloke stand at the closest post box (or whatever).
I gather that there are contractors who do exactly that:- contract distribution services and charge a margin for it. Again, I have to say that one or two magazines going missing in almost a decade is hardly something to get all twisted about!
On the other hand Dingo, I subscribe Woodenboat through BoatBooks and while they are regularly late, they are at least regular. I suspect that's because BB gets them then posts them out themselves.
It is a little more expensive than direct subscription though, but in my own way I'm happy for a company providing services in Australia to make a few dollars.
Cheers,
P
Must say I've usually had good service from Taunton. 1 or 2 copies went astray and replacements were airmailed. Hope I don't have to wait for these to come by surface mail.:D
My experience with Taunton is like Alex's. A bit better, actually. This is the first time since I started subscribing to FWW three years ago that it has been late in arriving.
They have responded promptly to my emails and have offered to extend my subscription by one issue.
So I'm not complaining!
Mine hasnt arrived either
I received this email today (probably the same as others):
Dear Mr. Cohen:
This e-mail is to confirm that we have experienced shipping problems to
Australia. We are told that Fine Woodworking Issue #186 has been
arriving late to most Australia subscribers. If at all possible, you may
want to purchase this issue at the newsstand and we can extend your
subscription an issue to recover that. Our shipping provider has changed
and has assured us that the regular receiving schedule will resume
starting with Fine Woodworking #187. Please let me know what you would
like to do in the meantime, as far as purchasing #186 and I will be
happy to extend your subscription.
Thank you so much for your patience and interest in Fine Woodworking and
Taunton Press publications. We look forward to hearing from you and
filling your subscription needs in the future.
Sincerely,
Kristi

I went out and bought a copy of the latest mag at the local newsagent and instructed FWW to add a month to my account. By the time the October mag is delivered I would have received the December one!
Regards from Perth
Derek
Sorry guys but I got mine about a month ago.:D :D :D
I have had to Email them about not getting I think 1 or 2 and although they said about 6 weeks but I think for memory it was about 6 to 10 days.
Peter
PS Has any one joined up to their web based info at $14 95USD and if so, how good is it?
Do you think it is worth it?
