Sick of telemerketers ????

We are sick of people who can't even pronounce our name ringing us offering services we dont want at inconvienient times.

This morning I contacted the Australian Direct Marketers Association ( ADMA)
to ask that our name be removed from their list, if you are interested the have a Web Site do a Google or

ADMA Do not contact service

I know these people are only doing what they can to earn a meal, but as I will certainly not be buying their products and giving my personal details to anyone who calls from a call centre, some where in Asia I figured they should not waste their time on me.

I had one phoning me this morning while I was still asleep in bed. Asian type accent, maybe from the east and had her time of day in Perth screwed up. She asked how I was. I told her that I was better before she woke me up and that I'm not interested in her call. Lo & behold, just after lunch she phoned again. I told her to get lost, however she wanted to check my fax number to enable her to fax 4 pages to me, so I told her that I was not interested and if it was important she could've told me on the phone. Her reply was that she couldn't discuss what she had to offer me on the phone. The last I heard as I put the phone down was that I was going to loose a lot..................a lot of something I didn't want I suppose.

I have thought about this and decided that the next one will get an email address as it is far more modern and convenient to deal with me by email. For those out there that want 'my' email it is : [email protected]

For the Afrikaans speaking out there it will be a joke and to enlighten you other guys it means : you big ar**h*[email protected]
I figure that none of them will be any the wiser, but the email will at least not reach me.

Was told by a mate recently that you are rated 1-5 on your manners. The ruder you are the less likely you are to get a return call.

Option 2, if you can't bring yourself to be rude, simply say "just one moment I need to check the kids" (or somehing similar) and leave the phone off the hook for a half hour or so then hang up.

Have not tried these but have been told they may have desired effect.

Have adopted this ..makes me feel good when they are on interstate or international call... at least Telstra or equiv makes money out of them :-)

When we baught our house we opted for a private number to avoid all these problems. It worked. Just avoid putting home number on anything like raffle tickets etc.

But we have noticed that more and more often they come knocking on our door instead (usually around the 6pm - 7pm mark) just when we are having tea. Last week, 4 out of 5 nights. Foxtel, Repco, Optus Broadband, 3G. Now I might have to put a sign above the door bell warning hawkers to ring bell at own risk. Maybe I could put some red paint on the door step or a chalk outline?

I have suffered from the "off shore" phone callers... In the end I said "send me the info in the mail.." the response was.. "I will have to ask you some questions to confirm who you are."

THAT really lost me, and told the person - politely - that I hoped he had better success with his next contact and then hung up.

ON a slightly different theme, I have also been getting unsolicited offers from the lending institutions for their credit cards.. NO I DONT WANT ONE. so I simply write , in texta, in big letters, NOT INTERESTED, on the forms then place these in the reply paid envelope and send it back :rolleyes:

After all they have paid for the paostage so why not use it :confused:

I do that to them every time, and i check the phone every 5 minutes, quietly, to see if they have hung up. sometimes they hold for 20 minutes or more, and i am proud of myself for stopping them hassling someone else for that time.

You could always say, "I am so glad you called me I have a great once in a lifetime offer for you today for some handmade Australian Stuffup furniture. thats how i started out too, try the "brick" option. teh feeling of satisfaction cant be described!!!!!!!!!

but if you must, put the other junk mail into the bag too, saves throwing it away
