:hmm: And a band saw? They don't throw things AT you do they? :hmm:
I was about to post what Tea Lady wrote. Bandsaw?
One person said it was a "table saw," the other said "bandsaw." I would be pretty impressed if someone managed to do that with a bandsaw, but you never know. :D We breed them a bit "special" over here...
Whinging Kiwis, we get splinters like that here all the time, when I was a boy..............
Yeh that would hurt.
It was not the wood in his hand that made me wince but the end of the article talking about the axe head incident that made me cringe
I work on a surgical ward and some of the 'injuries' I've seen make me wince, quite a bit. The worst one I've seen was a guy using an angle grinder which took a catch, swung around and sliced his sack and one of his goolies. After his operation he spent most of his day sitting in a chair with a bag of ice on his man bits. We had to get orthotics to make him a few pairs of specialised underwear.
Then, last week, we had a young boy who was screwing a bolt through a skateboard wheel when the screwdriver slipped and pierced his hand. He didn't pull the screwdriver out which made for an amusing X-ray with the wheel between his pierced hand and screwdriver.
Seen heaps of nails through various body parts from nail guns.
But the funniest one we've got is a screwdriver stuck inside a bloke's penis. Said he 'tripped and fell onto the screwdriver. True story people.
Try this:

I have heard of a guy that cut off the end of his penis with an angle grinder blade that broke and headed towards his groin...ouch!
Ok, thats enough, I'm almost too afraid to go into my workshop:D
Dont ask me how but my late Father cut his thumb off with a radial pull saw, they sowed his thumb back on and then the idiot did it again...same thumb!!! needless to say his mates called him "stumpy"
He should have known better being a pattern maker all his life!
Can recall," squashing," my left thumbnail years ago with a heavy, ( 28oz ), Claw Hammer,- can't remember exactly," how ?," but do recall being interupted by a visitor just as I was swinging the hammer,- result one squashed thumb which required stitching, and the removal of a mashed thumb-nail, at the local hospital.
Cabinetmaker mate of mine, absent-mindedly drilled a 3/16" hole once right through his left thumb, nail, bone, and all, with his bench drill. There was no repeat performance ever !!!!!!!!!!!
Have had pieces of thin timber," Flicked," back at me ovr the years by the 235mm. saw on my Triton Workcentre,- copped several, " wacks," in the ribs, and ducked several others, but nothing serious as yet, ( " touch wood " )
Do know of a School Woodwork teacher who wasn't looking what he was doing, and sliced a thumb on the Bandsaw in front of his students,- while giving the kids a lecture on, " Safety procedures in the workshop !!! ":o
Yes, He got well reminded about THAT for a long time afterwards:U:U
Roger
I gues we all become complacent at times and this serves as a reminder for us all to be careful.
I had a diabetic uncle who lost the feeling in his fingers, and didn't notice he'd nailed his thumb to the fence he was erecting until he tried to walk away.
HMMM a thin piece of wood gets thown by a tablesaw.....well there is a surprise:no:.
Me thinks the proceedures where not all that good.
As for the bloke cutting his thumb off with a radial arm saw  hardly an uncommon thing...that would have to be the single most likely of radial arm injuries followed by being smacked in the chops by the overfeeding carrage.
There used to be a link to a multipage list of US table saw accidents on here somewhere....just one after the other...some of them you would swear only happened in cartoons
cheers
Prolly the only upside of liquidating all my tools...I can't slice and dice any of my protuberances anymore. Mind you my fishing forays haven't been exactly drama free :-
Maybe I should knit...with blunt needles. :D
Sheddie (soon to be back on the water) :2tsup:
