A bit contrary today

OK...I'll admit to having a bit of time on my hands...and being a bit annoyed with other stuff...(not a good combination)...add that to buying some stuff at bunnies....

So..I bought a battery drill for my son for christmas....

Conversation with the checkout girl went like this...

..Girl.." Do you know this drill has a 2 year warranty sir?"
..Me.."Yes I do..that's one of the reasons I bought it"
...Girl..."You will need to photocopy the reciept sir"
...Me...." why's that I ask"?...
..Girl..."well, the reciept will fade after about 3 months sir"
..me... " I don't have a photocopier " do you have a photocopier?...in the office maybe?...
..girl... I'll have to check...could you come back later sir?"

...me ...No I'll wait thanks...

...........finally manager turns up....I explain the predicament...he races off to photocopy my reciept...
... The (flustered) manager finally delivers my photocopied reciept ( while the cue behind me gets longer)
...as I leave ......I hear the the little old lady behind me ask the manager for a photocopy as well..... for her basil plants....

My work here is done :D

If you're going to claim on warranty, make sure the date comes out clearly.:roll:

You raise an important issue that I never previously considered. If a retailer expects you to keep a receipt for warranty claims and the warranty period exceeds the physical life of the receipt, surely they are obliged to provide a more resilient receipt at the time of purchase.

Maybe if everyone demands a proper receipt, retailers/till manufacturers will be forced to lift their game.

WW - I think you may have just discovered the flaw in "Lifetime Warranty".....:rolleyes:

When it breaks it has obviously reached the end of its lifetime, therefore not covered. Sorry.

Interesting point. This would also apply to all tax reciepts.

That is mainly the reason for having a printed Tax Invoice.

I scan all receipts and file them away on the computer.

WW, It wouldn't hurt for the seller to endorse the manual with the shop name, date of purchase and a signature.

It would be interesting to query the legal status of a store issuing receipts that are known to fade with the ACCC, and find out just what the case is with a blank piece of thermal paper!

This is what I have also been doing for years. This also gives me a quick reference to see what I own and not purchase a duplicate item if memory fails me :wink:.

It is stupid that they give you something that fades away. I always thought that to maintain the warranty you needed to keep the original proof of purchase.

I would hate to see the argument if a photocopy of the "original" thermal receipt was not accepted under a warranty claim! :o

Most warranties ask for original proof of purchase. They could possibly be within their rights to refuse a copy. Dont know about a certified copy. You would think, in this day and age, they could come up with something better than a vanishing receipt. Ahhh retailers, what would we do without them?

Going with the axe-weilder and WW on this one. Ask for a tax invoice. Having said that, it may be worth checking the Bunnies receipt as it may constitute the same.

If that's the case it's back to square one.

Just found a couple of bunnies receipts from 2010 this morning and they are still legible if a little faded. Perhaps the sales girl was a saboteur.

The Bunnies receipts do not last long in the car boot. :)

Thermal paper rolls are cheap,only let down they fade if left in bright lights,dont know why they dont print receipts on plain paper,Bunnings being the cheapskates they are probably buy thre thermal stuff for next to nithing.:rolleyes:

Plain paper printers require ink, either in the form of an inkjet that blocks up or runs out or in the form of a ribbon that jams or runs out.
Thermal printers are more reliable, shame about the life of the output.

:hmm: I wonder if there is a "fixer" you can spray on! Kinda like photographic stop bath or something! Glen 20 maybe? :D:p

... and don't try to iron the creases out of it.

In a bygone era, before we had PCs and everyone became a potential publisher, grahic artists used Letraset sheets, which were just sheets of letters in vaious sizes and fonts, for their artwork. Once the transfers were placed onto paper a "fixer" was sprayed onto that to ensure it was permanent. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the product, but it worked well.

Of course a product like that may react badly with the Bunnies paper and disintegrate it like something out of Mission Impossible or Get Smart.:)

I know it's an old thread but I was in Bunnies again on the weekend and watched as a bloke returned an item .....when asked for proof of purchase he produced his iphone with a pic of the reciept on it...the number was checked and the item replaced....:2tsup: bloody great idea :2tsup:
