No piccies, but you could visit Stringers Knob in East Gippsland.
I grew up in Orbost and at high school we had a auto prac teacher whose nickname was Stringer. You can imagine the subtlety of our humour...
Cheers...........Sean

Over here in the west we have ..Innaloo and ...Upper Swan
How about TumbleDownDick Hill between Terry Hills and Mona Vale in Sydney's northern beaches!
You'll go far when you go to Yatta Yattah...........
Used to be a very small town near Bateman's Bay, NSW. Last time I went thru' there was only a sign post.
Cardinia Shire could have been more thoughtful with Packenham Upper, the reverse would have been better, then there's Smoko near Myrtleford.
What about Goonoo Goonoo up Tamworth way (pronounced 'gunna gunoo) and also another one just north of Tenterfield is Boonoo Boonoo National Park- (pronounced 'bunna bunoo)
Iain, You beat me to it. When I used to work on the trains the Station Master at Caulfield used to announce the trains to Packingham (Packenham) and Cran Born (Cranbourne). The Station Master out at Packenham (not Australian) used to announce the buses to Packinem Up-per. LMAO every time I heard it.Quote:

Careful, this could gestate a Place Name Nazi (PNN) !
My brother lived briefly at Waaia (pron. way-aye) up near Sheppparton in Vic, struck me as being useful in Scrabble (if you could use names) to clear out some vowels (better mind the pron. of that last phrase  )
Cheers.......Sean
:( Sorry, should know better living so close, but how about our dilemma, we live just outside Lang Lang, and I'm sure that the Shire has it back to front
Here's one in Austria, that may or may not get past Admin as it's both the name of a place, and a rude word.

Nowhere Else in WA sounds exciting and I think that there is a Somewhere Else and Nowhere in Tassie.
How about "Who'ed Thought It" Lookout in Quirindi NSW
In WA we have Coolyanobbing and Whyalkatchem in the Goldfields and Mandogalup (frequently mispronounced Manupadog) near Fremantle.

Just down the hill from me there's Yorkey's Knob :p . There's a multimillion dollar resort development starting there and in the advertising they're calling the area "Yorkey's Beach" There's also a spot on the range road called "Sackley's Knob". Got a friend near Kempsey, lives down Dongdingalong road, Dongdingalong (sp?)
Mick
Mick, I always liked the T-shirt on the barman at the marina. Its said;Quote:

Whakaue Street Rotarua - pronounced fuk-uh-wey. Where the .... are we? Get it?
I once drove through a town called "Wank" (pronounce vank) in southern Germany. No photo unfortunately - too cold to get my telescopic lens out.
there is a place in the uk called "lost". their sign post keeps getting stolen.
In Melbourne's South East Suburbs there is "High Street Road". It seems that someone in the past couldn't make up their minds whether it should be Street or Road so they used both.
There is also Ernst Wank road somewhere out that way as well.
Somewhere in France there is a town called Condom.
On the Central Coast of NSW there is a suburb called Watanobbi
Casino, NSW has several outlying areas called
1. Doubtful creek
2. Fairy Hill
3. Gays Hill
4. Bent creek
Makes you wonder about them.
Have would you like to explain to your friends that you live in Dum Dum (neer Murwillumbah) or in Wonglepong (near Mt Tamborine) ?
In New Zealand there is a place aussies call 'whykickamoocow' b....cant even remember its natural name
Whykickamoocow was also race horse. It was spelt something like Whykikamukau.
Dan
Dondingalong (Kempsey NSW) But I loved 'Wombat' down south, somewhere.
Peter R.
Just down the road (literally, about 1.5km) there's an area known as "Fairyland". There was a racecourse there known as the Fairyland Racecourse between the two world wars. Years ago, long before the Fitzgerald inquiry and the resulting clean up of the Qld police force there was a local seargent who beat up a bloke when he gave his address as Fairyland road, Fairyland.
Mick
I looked for Waikikamukau when I was over there last week.Quote:

I still reckon Wijimooltha (Widgy-Multha) is the coolest town name in the country, follow by Wyalkatchem.
When we first moved to canberra, I thought people were having me on when they said Ulludulla was pronounced phontetically (that is, with all short u sounds). Surely its Yoolladalla? Nope.
Also, in NZ we werent allowed to leave the back packers until we could pronounce "Te Anau" correctly. Seems like such a simple name but getting the pronunciation of he maori names is a pain the ass. Hell us aussies dont even pronounce Maori correct!
