Hey Ern!
Hope you are healing well. Wrists can take a little time. DAMHIK It may keep you of the bike and from turning for a few weeks.
Take even more care of yourself.
:o Ern thats not good considering you were having trouble with the wrist also heal fast.
Ray
Gee Ern, don't you have enough fun with dangerous rotating things if they are bolted to the ground? :)
When I was a little tacker my dad was swiped by the tail of a truck on a narrow mountain road and luckily picked up some time later by a police jeep. For that reason he prohibited me ever driving a bike. I do have a licence but have never driven one. I call it my "licence to kill" :D Or be killed, more likely. :( Get well soon.
Ta guys.
Yeah, I'd dropped in on Jeffs event on the Mon; Tues I got hit riding the bike down the Bogong High Plains Rd. KO'd and no memory of it but looking at bike and gear figure I clipped or was clipped by an oncoming vehicle.
3 days in hospital and two ops on the right wrist for multiple fractures. The 'wet carpenter' put in a plate with 6 screws (being semi-conscious I could hear him asking for a #23 screw or somesuch), then the 2nd time round he did some wiring up of bones. Nec for a woodturner he reckoned.
So it'll be 5 weeks in a cast and then the wires come out.
Had great care in the 2 Gippsland hospitals and a New Year's day to remember. Not.
Worst thing was coming off the 2 day morphine high, :;
And it would be the right hand :(
Geez Ern, sorry to hear, hope all mends up Ok.
Damn Ern, sorry to hear this, especially considering the state of your hands and wrist, hope it mends well.
Know how you feel about being in hospital for NYE, I'm still in there
Thats as crook as, take it easy and get well!
Hi Ern
Sorry to hear about your mishap, but glad you're OK.
Hope you recover fully soon.
Cheers
Hey Ern. that's not a good start of the new year.
Hope on a quick recovery, Anyway time for reading some books.
Best Regards, Ad
Thanks guys.
Shoot! DJ, didn't a cleansing diet of beer and chips do the job? What a sod. Your patience must be being tested big time.
I've stacked a few bikes over the years and it's no fun. You mend and forget quickly though. That's life.
I hope you can return to the lathe quickly Ern. All the best.
Hey what is you Mexicans down there first Kens fall DJ with the stones and now Ern all needing hospital treatment, take care we are non of us 20 any more hope you are all on road to recovery and turning soon.
Cheers Tony
Sorry to hear about your accident, A mate I work with did much the same thing just out of Omeo in November. Wrote his bike off, broke three ribs
When your feeling better and are down this way next let me know and we can catch up for a coffee or something stronger maybe.
Ern,
look after yourself. Geez.... what can I say?
(Get off the motor bike. It's like pleasure and pain.)
Great to see you in one piece over the break. And hopefully see you soon.
Sorry to hear you've "come a gutsa!". Hope the wrist heals well. I always managed to come out of my stacks far better than my bikes - strange that you've had little damage to the bumble-bee
:C Glad it was only a flesh wound.:C Lost a cousin to a bike accident so I doubt I'd ever think the fun was worth it. Look after yourself. :)
Last time we were at DJ's you mentioned you often ride past our place.
I have been half expecting you to drop in over Christmas - now I know why! :C
Get well soon.
When we all wished you a very happy Christmas break
you have taken it the wrong way Ern.:D
Get well soon.
Allan
All the best Ern and a quick recovery. Those things buck you off without warning.
Rippa
Bloody hell Ern , You've had a hell of a run these past few months , seems like the snow is the only one that ain't bit ya on the bum , eh.
Heal well mate , rest up , and catch up on your reading .
Well, Ern... what can I add to what's already been said? Hope you pain is gone, and that you heal rapidly!!
I've owned three bikes, and my Pop told me that when I got to the point that I thought I could ride one, that it'd ride me. He was right. Last wreck was in 1963, and I haven't been on one since.
Better luck to you. :)
Been there too (broken ribs), long time ago. To quote one of the young comedians, "Screw get well soon. Get well NOW". Seriously Ern and DJ, hope you are healing apace and the quality of your new year is improving rapidly.
Now yo have had all the soft mushy stuff on to more important things.
The state of the bike??????? How'd it come off??
Sorry to hear of the accident Ern. I hope that your recovery is swift and you are back to normal soon. I hope that you and your bike are soon re-united.
Cheers
SG:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:
Bummer Ern!
Get well soon.
Cheers,
FrankG
well hell, wasn't enough that DJ is stuffed up in hospital ...now Ern is feeling left out and wants to be laid up as well.
Both you guys just can't stay away from those good looking shielas in hospital:q:D
Hope you have some mates that will smuggle in some beers for ya':2tsup:...and "get well quick, guys"!!
Appreciate your kind words folks.
Vern, I was trundling down the road slowly, maybe 40 kph, as it was narrow and winding. There's no scuffing on the leather pants and little on the jacket. A hunch is that after the knock I was able to stop the bike but then fainted and fell over.
Wood borer, after this experience I look forward to calling in and taking in the fresh air.
Anyway, it could've been a lot worse. A guy my age was killed nearby the day before. The ambos attending that one and said the oncoming car was on the wrong side of the road and cleaned him up.
Since returning to riding a few years ago I've done over a 100,000 km of hard riding with a few minor offs. This one is unsettling though as I don't know who or what was accountable, and esp for the nauseatingly surreal experience of spending a wakeful night after surgery with a dead limb, fearing that nerve damage was done. The docs hadn't told me that this was normal with the spinal block they used; and the nurses regularly kept the fear alive by asking whether the fingers had feeling or could be moved.
So it's a time for re-evaluating. The existing hand problem was caused by an earlier off, and doubtless in time this one will produce arthritis in the wrist. I'm not sure how many more bills of that kind I want to pay.
Takes a long time to heal properly, I had a broken wrist a couple of years ago and I know how painful the recovery is. Not a nice expeerience but could have been much worse. Hope you recover quicker than I did.
Ern, I know we've spoken since your "off" but I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you don't have to sell the Jova as a consequence. Is the trip to the land of the rising sun still on?
Sorry to hear I hope you have a speedy recovery and back on the lathe ASAP
I hope the rest of the year treats you better.
Thanks RP and GJ.
Yeah, the Japan trip is off, and I hadn't been able to organise travel insurance for it before Xmas so that's a double ouch.
Sorry to hear about your accident Ern hope you get well soon mate.
Bugger!
Hope you heal quickly.
Ouch! Ern, kinda reminded me why I sold my bike. So its a no win all round, no turning, no bike for a bit and no trip to Japan.
I hope it does not aggravate and existing condition.:C
heres to a speedy recovery :2tsup:
Just came across this thread. Jees Ern, look after yourself.
Never figured you for a Fireblade riding kind of guy from your Avatar, but there you go . Glad it was relatively minor (not that a busted wrist would feel terirbly minor at the time :C).
Take it easy, let the wrist heal and gaffer-tape a bowl gouge to the cast :2tsup: - you should be fine :o
cheers,
Dave
Geez Ern,
Sorry to hear about your prang. And I hope you get some feedback about the clown who nudged you, sometimes they have no idea that there's been contact and wonder where the scratches came from. The bloke that hit me was chased down by a driver behind him, otherwise I would have had to get the bike fixed at my cost!http://cdn.woodworkforums.com/images...andard/mad.gif
Cheers, and may 2010 be a better year all round.
Graeme
Just caught this thread:(( sorry to here about the accident Ern and hope for a full and speedy recovery.
Gees, ya look at a thread title and think "Ern's put the chisel through the side of a bowl and everybody's taken the "
Then ya have a read and think "ah shyte"
Ern get better - hope the wrist heals better and stronger then it was.
Hope you eventually find out what actually happened. Hopefully the police report will be enlightening.
Lay back and watch the cricket - but that's pretty depressing!
With the sort of luck you've had I sincerely hope 2010 is heaps better
All the best for a speedy recovery Ern.
