Pegs for Pegboard

Hi all, don't know if this is the correct forum area but my pegboard is located in my garden shed so I guess it is ok!

I have a problem with the hooks that go into the masonite pegboard in the fact that they always fall out and behind somehting. What I wanted to know is there a better peg? If so where do I find it? I believe there are turned steel pegs with clear plastic covers that simply push into the holes. What about timber dowel like the kind for doing dowling joints in cabinet making?

Any ideas considered.

Mate get yourself a cheep hot glue gun $2-$4 at a reject type shop and put a bit on each peg and push into the pegboard , you can still remove them if you want but they don't fall out every time you use them :2tsup:

I used the wide masking tape on the back for the single hole hooks, the two and three peg hooks seam to stay put by themselves.

I use old golf tees

Will this work for the metal hooks, these are the "pegs" I am currently referring to.

Yeah, have used a few of these and they do stay put however some items you hang up only have a small hole in them which means removing the tee to remove the item.

Yes, all you want it to do is stop the hook lifting which is why they come out. A dap of hot melt glue between the peg and the board stops the hook lifting and a wee bit in the hole helps too :2tsup:

Yep - a lot of us use golf tees for peg board - if it falls out & gets lost - who cares?

Lee Valley sell a couple of 'systems' for peg board - one has plastic pegs/hangers that have a screw fitting that spreads the ends of the peg making it stay put. Haven't seen anyone carrying the same things locally.

I just use some heavy gauge wire and bend it into 'S' hooks. :shrug:

That way I can shape 'em to suit any sized item I want.

They look the goods alright paul, the only prob I can see is that you would need axcess to the back of the board to remove them if you wanted to shift them :rolleyes:

If you go into the shop "The Warehouse" they sell a pack of 32 assorted steel pegboard hooks that have a locking pin on them that stops them swinging around and tends to keep them in place.

You can buy these for $5.95 a pack. The cheapest peg board hooks I've ever seen.

For what it is worth here is the info from the website concerning moving them:

Removing:
Since your hooks do lock into the pegboard you need to be gentle when you remove them. Otherwise, you may damage your pegboard. On thinner boards, you can often gently pry up and the hooks will come out. On thick boards, it is often necessary to use a small screwdriver to push up on the lock so that it will release. To do this, pull the hook away from the board and insert a small screwdriver through the hole and under the lock. Gently push it up while pulling on the hook. Be careful that you do not enlarge the pegboard hole.

Thanks Bazza, Have you used these or just seen them? It's just that I can't tell from the photo how they actually work!
