Forum Mugs WIP!

Debated with myself where this thread should actually go. :think: I dunno! But here it is anyway! :shrug:

So I "threw" most of the mugs on the weekend. Here are some pics. Each mug is made from 400 grams of clay! I don't measure anymore, cos they seem to come out the same size! They will probably shrink nearly 20 % so they might look big now, but when they are finished they will be just the right size! :cool: I also put the handles on but those pics will have to wait till tomorrow for posting! :U

Weird isn't it! The only necessary tool is a wire to cut them off the wheel. And I've seen stuff done without that too! :U

Nice work TL :2tsup: I had a friend who was a potter (is that the right word? Ir is it just plain 'potty' :p ) and she reckoned the hardest job was doing a set of anything - getting them all the same. I guess it's much the same in wood turning...

Now we all need to start debating the important issues, like how many HP and phases your wheel runs, which brand, is it a stubby, how much money have you spent on chucks, and do you sharpen freehand or with a jig, etc :D:D:D

I'm sure the comment was made in jest, however, it would be interesting to know the wheel/tool spend ratio. My immediate thoughts are that tool costs are not that high, unless you buy a kiln. Then the power bills will send you broke :((.

NAturally in jest, but you are right, it would be interesting... The friend I had in pottery had her own kiln, gas then electric (or the other way around). She didn't like to discuss that side though - too painful :o
