Laptop connected to net via dialup, painful weekly meeting underway other side of wall. Groggy studiously taking notes on his PDA in the meeting. 2hr attendance for 5 min involvement - literally.

I can relate to 2 hour meetings that you get nothing out of. I used to be a manager with BHP BlueScope.
