Noise, Neighbours and woodwork.....

Had a great think happen today, one of the neighbours came up to me and asked if I could do him a favour, as I had tools (and he eyed my bench I am finishing) he told me (as old single people tend to do it was a big story) the short was he put a hot pot of something in the fridge on the glass shelf and it cracked. He wondered if I could make him a replacement shelf. Me being the obliging type said sure, asked what he would like it out of. He produced a small offcut of perspex which was too big, all I had to do was run it through the bench saw (it is a 235mm 60 tooth blade atm), I said he could wait while I do it, he just left me with it so I did not feel pressured. I ripped it down and gave the edges a quick sand. He was surprised it was done so quick, it even fitted well (he did a great job on measuring it). He wanted to pay me. I politely declined and agreed to give him a call if I need a hand to do something.

So I think the neighbours are happy and seeing the benefits ;)

Sorry mate, I am keeping them. This afternoon I was making a bit of noise with my lathe (and it is very noisy electrically due to the motor drive (it interferes with the radio etc)) The guy I thought would have a problem in the unit opposite me, waved as he went up to check the letter box :shrug:

So I am keeping them ;)

One way to fix a gossip........................

Mrs Gossip was constantly being the first with the latest on who was seeing who and who was doing what.
New guy moves into town, elderly gent, widower, just wanting a place to do his own thing.
Mrs Gossip was always the first to let her "friends" know just who's house he'd been seen at on any day.
Elderly gent did abit of maintenance for some of the ladies in the town and got abit sick and tired of Mrs Gossip.
His vehicle had broken down outside one of the ladies homes and after finishing the work was driven home by said lady.
Well, Mrs Gossip couldnt wait to spread the latest news to her "friends" and it got back to eldery gent very quickly.
He in turn got his vehicle going again and that night with lights off, parked outside Mrs Gossip's house and walked home.

Mrs Gossip never said another word about him :)

I have a rather large shed here in Sydney. Used to work out of here full time with council permision. The wife of the financial planner next door came in one arvo and asked me if I could cut some board for a spot in the new kitchen as they had the property on the market. No probs and after I'd done it she asked if I could be sure to make no noise that Saturday morning as they had an open house. I told her that due to the GFC I would quite possibly be working full time out of the shed when I retired and so did not want to give any potential new neighbours the wrong idea about the 40 x 60 foot shed looming over the back fence. Same mob when they first moved in complained about our windows on their side on our proposed second floor. Same with trees overshadowing them.
Still at least they don't climb over the back fence behind my shed and cut down our banksias etc like the bloke in back does.
Bloke on the other side when we first moved in the fence blew over. I proposed we just clamp it back up to the steel posts but he said that it was the third time it had blown down and he wanted to fix it. So he and his father in law and my helper and I did it ourselves. We don't live in each others pockets but you couldn't get a better neighbour. Takes all types I guess.
