Turning Wood Into Art
Hi Dave
Can I add my name to the list? I will be there Sunday and Monday.
It is only 634 k from my place via a friends place at Cootamundra to Jerilderie.
I will be just me, and I will probably stay in the caravan park, but will confirm this tomorrow.
No fancy diet requirements apart from the lobster that was mentioned earlier.
Looking forward to doing a lap or two of your backyard on the Indian, I will bring my leather jacket and helmet just in case the brakes are a bit dodgy, assuming you don't break the kick start lever before it is my turn.:D
Looking forward to a great couple of days.
Alan...
Very good Alan ... consider yourself added.
There is a caravan in the Drive still that is not being used.
I think Trev is staying at the budget hotel at the other end of town from the caravan park. The cheapest in town besides the Jerilderie Hotel I believe is the Greenview Motel which is attached to the Servo across the road from the golf course at the caravan park end of town.
No air con in the van other a fan and windows but we were away on it a few days ago and it was ok.
Will you be here in time for breakfast Sunday?

Dave,
I'm hoping to be there at Saturday lunchtime for some turning and the arrival of a certain motorcycle, and most of Sunday. I asked Wendy and she's not keen but young Sophie reckons she'll tag along Saturday.
Brett, I'm sorry to read of Lola's op. I was hoping to catch up with the two of you again. Best wishes.
Craig
Yes Dave seeing I am just down the road I shall be there Saturday & staying Saturday night in the caravan park.Cheers peter
Just confirmed with Peter on the phone, he will be there with his partner.
I think everyone has my contact details and address now. If anyone else is passing through for the day or the weekend and wants my contact details just say so here on the thread or PM
So far we have 7 staying on site 3 in paid accommodation and few locals and some from neighbouring towns.
Showers might be fun lol, good thing we have a big hot water service.

G'day Dave, I emailed Lili & David who I remembered just yesterday were in Deniliquin and they have emailed me back to say they'll drop over on the weekend... I gave the the WWF Thread info plus your number.. Cheers, Peter
Gathered most of the weapons I'll need :? thinking I may need help from the turners but doubting they'll want to blunt a keen edge on a log endgrain or whether we'll have a lathe to handle beefy log, there's always plan B!? Traveling plan is to go through Melbourne's burbs before sunrise Saturday morning and on to an expected openish road, a couple of stops to water the horses, say hello to good ol' Murray and on to Jerilderie to see what happens. Still have room for one more passenger if they dare :U
Hey Cowboy,
I haven't got one but I was just wondering if anyone who's going on the weekend might have one of those porta shades!
If we set one up on that beautiful manicured back lawn of yours, we could leave the Indian out.
Just a thought.
Cheers mate
Trev.
I should have done a multi quote ... who knows Crowie might fix this for me.
I have a lathe that would handle a lot but no motor ... ok I lie, I have a motor but not 3 phase..
I have another lathe I could drag out ... that has a big swing ... ok fellas we could have 4 lathes for the day but might need to chase up my motor for the fourth, leant it to another bloke

Just keeping us in suspense hey?
Day 1 is done. Here's some of my photos.
Trevor's (Repliconics) Indian motorbike was eagerly anticipated; absolutely stunning. Dave's niece and my daughter give some indication of scale.
The other Craig in attendance (Springwater) began creating Ned Kelly's helmet. He started with a hand saw and then someone thought they saw an old chainsaw in Dave's useful box and Gordon from the motel down the road drove back to get his too (it helps when chainsaws have petrol in them and the chains on the right way around guys!) An Arbortech was then used. I then saw a hatchet whacking away.
Trevor then attempted turning some timber for the first time. As Dave said above, we're turning him to the dark side, muahaha.
Dave's son Tom was inspired by the bike and made a model of his own.
Forum members and non-members alike enjoyed the lunch and bbq dinner. Crowie and rwbuild were stuck on the road still and had to be assisted by NRMA and then Dave and Trevor drove out to meet them.
A most enjoyable day. I intended to be there for 4 hours, which quickly became 8.
Photo 1: Trevor (Repliconics), Craig (Springwater) and I'm sorry but I've forgotten the next fella's name (prospective member?)
Photo 6: Trevor, Geoff (Geof Ford) skewered by the clothesline, Julie and , Dave (DaveTTC) in his cowboy hat.
Photo 10: Trevor and Pawoods (Peter)
Hey Chesand,
I see you're viewing this thread. Even your name came up in conversation yesterday.
Like the photos, thanks. Wish I was there. Will be next year if it's on !
Have a great time:wave:
Regards
Keith
Looks like another great time to be had :2tsup:
Not sure about using the chainsaw like that though :o. I assume that strap holding the log isn't metal, but the bar is also too short so you are asking for kickback as you bury the bar :(, then there is cutting down onto a steel surface
Any chance of some names to go with the photos for those unfamiliar with everyone?
Springwater didn't put the nose(?) of the bar into the log; he only cut it up on the diagonal as shown in the photo. The band clamp held but I know what you mean. The cut didn't go much further than what you see in the photo so the chainsaw wasn't going near the bed ways.
Well yesterday we removed a a large centre section .... yes I was on the saw. I am sure I broke many a rule. Did 4 plunge cuts. As I had not touched a chain saw since 92 and have never had anyone show me how to use one I was pleased. No pics as yet cause I could not take a selfie and and cut at once ... still working on getting more pics up.
It has been an awesome time. Sitting up with springwater and reploconics now and having a coffee ... 2nd for me, 4 the for craig I believe but whose counting.
Uncle Al has gone down the street camera in hand.

Thanks for the update on names Craig.
Did Crowie and rwbuild manage to make it?
Yes they made it, they are leaving in the morning. Today RWBuild turned up a candle stick holder and crowie supervised.
There were a few fireworks tonight. No seriously, fire works! For our guests that stayed the night we thought we'd put on a show. A real show! About 5 or 10 minutes of fore works.

Sound like a good time was had by all. Beware Trev as turning can become very addictive seriously it can be very useful in model and toy making. Also good to put faces to names
For those of you who dont know .... my wife is very a quiet person and not a socialite.
Now the weekend is over here are a few of her comments
"it was a great weekend"
"those wood working people are very nice people. No swearing, no carry on, very friendly"
"I liked every single one of them"
"next year we are going to be more organised. A new bathroom, new toilet and fix that back door (if you were here you would know)"
"I liked the fact that everyone enjoyed themselves and it was all casual"
Big thanks from Raechell, Tyler, Sammy, Tommy, Jade & myself. Without those who attended it would not have been anything at all.

I'm glad that the weekend was a success and that Raechell felt comfortable amongst it all. Most woodies seem to be a very happy and easy going bunch and it looks like you had some there.
Good to hear that Crowie and rwbuild eventually made it safely. Hopefully they have a better trip home.
Thankyou to you and Raechell for putting on the weekend even though I couldn't be there. Hopefully next time, if it happens again.
Are there any more photos to come?
there are more photos to come. Many more as every one gets home and post. Sadly my phone is painfully slow

I'm very pleased that the weekend went well Dave. :2tsup:
As mentioned by a couple of earlier posters, a early reminder of next years event would help us with our very busy social calendar at this time of year:roll::q
