Wouldn't you just love to be waiting below with a baseball bat? People generally come down feet first, a sound belting across the side of the knee joint would make for an interesting time for them while you waited for the police to arrive, I doubt they would be able to continue their way down into the house or exit off the roof via the way they came up:D

Never a baseball bat thats a weapon , now a 5 "D" cell mag light thats a torch and you were defending yourself as he rushed at you , and never forget the 2 main things
1 I was in fear for my life thats why I defended myself as I did
2 Lie through your teeth cause the baddies will and there is no honour in going to jail besause you told the truth and some ba$tard that was trying to rob , hurt , kill you didn't :no:

Now then, getting into a house through the roof seems like awfully hard yakka, so there must be something about Ozzie roofs (rooves? :D ) that I don't understand. :?

Some Oz houses have tile roof, lift up the tiles and make room enough for a body to get into. Its easy to do, handy thing to have if you lock yourself out of the house, except crim's know this trick too.

The standerd roof tile clips under the one above it and the one on the left , so lifting the bottom right corner and a bit of jiggling and its free the next one is easier so removing 4 or 6 tiles and theres bugger all to stop you getting into the roof cavity , from there find the man hole and your in
The tile system is good if you want to replace damaged tiles but an easy entry point for baddies.:o

Now this I have a funny story about. While working in Merredin for the Ag Department in my younger more foolish years, we stumbled back to a mates GEHA house after a few hours at the local, all somewhat worse for wear. Get to the front door and said mate realises he has lost his keys, no worries I will get in through the roof says he.

Me and another mate were standing on the front porch waiting as we hear him moving tiles around and shuffling around in the roof. Then we hear this thumping on the ceiling. This goes on just long enough for one of us to say allowed "why doesn't he just use the manhole" before he smashes through the ceiling right in front of us, still outside the house on the front porch:roflmao2:

Think of the Spanish terracotta style tiles, or the Mexican roofs. You can slide one tile under the other to gain access - the tiles are larger than the Spanish style, see below:

Thanks. Basic construction differences then. A tile roof here (any roof, really) would have a 19mm plywood underlayment solid across the entire span of the roof. Can't get in without a circular saw and a lot of work. :)

The company I work for does a lot of work for the Department Of Housing, you would be surprised how often we get called around to put roof tiles back in their place for someone who has locked themselves out or on the other hand has been broken in to. The best thing to do is put some pad bolts on the underside of your man hole!!:-

Hmm - think I might fill my roof cavity with a lot of rat traps...... big ones.
