I'm too old for Leggo. It was Mecanno in my day. :p
I took my kids to Legoland in Denmark a few years ago. We ended up having to stay at "Hotel Legoland" It was the most expensive 3 star motel I have ever stayed at. About $1100 for 1 night in 2 small rooms. The kids however still talk about their trip and think it was the best thing ever.
I had a Meccano set too. I once made what I believe to be the world's first desktop flight simulator. I constructed a universal joint out of Meccano which was clamped to the desk. Then there was a series of pulleys and strings connected to some Meccano pedals and a short broom stick that you used to tilt and rotate the universal joint. To this I attached a Lego model of a Cessna. Then you could sit there and pretend you were flying it. Hours of fun. If I could've worked out how to make the scenery move as well, I might have been rich!
Cross my heart!
What's Duplo?
Apropos of Meccanno, I was watching the Antiques Roadshow one time and this bloke (it was never going to be a sheila  ) had a #10 from the Sixties in its original packaging, i.e. it had never been used. :oo:
The presenter asked him how it was possible to be a kid with a #10 and not to play with it.
I don't recall that he came up with a convincing answer.
Ahhh... Meccano! One Chrissy I found a small Nimrod donkey engine under the tree, with Meccano spaced holes drilled around the base. Naturally, the first thing I did was build a big steam-powered gantry crane. :2tsup:
Later that night, as Dad consoled me over the Dresden look-alike, he introduced me to the concept of clutches and dog-gears. :-
Possibly Angaston, here in the ever-surprising Barossa, where we have our very own Legoman. Even the Queen has been to see his collection, apparently!
It wasn't him on the beach though. I've seen him, and he's really not very tall.
He woke up in bed next to a lego horse's head.
How could you sleep in a Lego hotel??? All those little plastic bumps in your back?
