I wonder why the prohibition on modern utlilites (eg mobile phone), and going even close to their home town?

Anyway, it appears someone has unhijacked this thread again. ;) It certainly does look like an interesting thing that might be seen in Germany. As for why no modern conveniences - I would guess that it is a gimmick.

A couple of years ago there were several of them working on building the woodage. Caused a bit of a stir when they first went into the pub there, I can tell ya.
