Flooring

I have an area of about 60sqm which currently has carpet, that I would like to replace with floorboards, we are in an established home and on a slab, so height is a real concern. My inital questions are:

• Is lamiate floating flooring more durable, which would you recommend?
• How does 14mm pre-finished solid (not floating) timber compare and which would you recommend?
• Is this stuck directly to the slab?
• What would the height of the floor be? We don't want to make any adjustments to doors ect.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.:)
