Worm Drive on Garage Door Opener

I've got a Magic Button automatic garage door opener which utilises a worm drive to open the door. It works by engaging a slotted plate with the worm drive - as you would expect.

The problem I have is that the slotted plate is now worn and just slips. I contacted Magic Button who have no parts.

Apparntely I'm going to have to sling the lot for the sake of a 50 cent part.

Anyone got any bright ideas?
