Painting Skirting boards over tiles

I have tiles in the kitchen, and the evil one wants a color make over, whats the best way to paint the skirting boards.

Put down painters tape? if so when is the best time to remove?

Or just scour and scrape of the excess with a razor blade ( we have very flat porcelain tiles)

Any other suggestions?
