A new bod with splinters.

Evening wooden types.

I have just joined up after lurking on and off for a year or so.

Have been developing an interest in working with wood for some time but am now almost a grown up and figure that now is the time to start spending more time and money on the art/craft/hobby.

I've been most impressed by the amount of knowledge shown on this forum when I have dropped in for a look and I am looking forward to being able to pick the brains of other members and maybe even contributing a bit of whiffle and piffle now and again.

Anyways, you didn't say in you intro what type of woodwork you're interested in? Any specific area? Box-making? Furniture? Wood-turning? Or just "woodwork in general?"

One of my kids had the hots for Lady Penelope...........one of the others was into "Brains":-

Type of woodwork? Um, general working in wood type of woodwork.

Probably a bit of boxmaking, some basic furniture, shelves etc. No real hankering for turning. I have a strong interest in using recycled timbers wherever possible and Australian timers at that. My bent for recycling and reusing extends to handtools as well. As much as I'd love a full collection of new Lie-Nielsen planes I just can't make myself save up and spend on them when I know that there is an old Stanley, Record or whoever out there waintg for a bit of fixing and fettling. I've always had a love for history so I guess this comes out in my interest in old tools. Who used this old thing before I did? Why di I get it and not his grandson etc.

Ultimately I would like to make things that are square and cut dovetails in old timber with old tools with no jigs, guides or machines.
