Merbau Deck.

Hey people, I have just received a quote for a merbau deck to go under my new verandah. Quote was $4200 for essentially a 7m x 4m flat area. Works out to be $150 per m2. Is this a reasonable quote?

Also, the guy suggested excavating under the deck to "allow more air flow". I now have a depth of around 200mm. How critical is it to have a greater depth?

I have an option to go for treated pine for $400 less - I think the merbau is worth the extra - ant thoughts?
