Tru-Oil seems to a very popular finish for necks on guitars etc. When I look up the data sheet it says its a mix of linseed and some fast drying oils. Does anyone know how it differs from Danish Oil?

Danish is a mix of polyurethane (or spa varnish) and oils
Ive been using Birchwood Casey's Truoil for 30yrs in gunstock making, it is the quickest and best finish Ive used bar none and I think Ive used them all. and I believe that the differance is that danish oil is tung oil based and does not hve the additives to make it "go off" quicker.

So where do you buy Tru-Oil in AU? Last I heard it wasn't available here.

it is used on gunstocks

Thanks for the tip, I figured the finish would have to be pretty good before the oil is applied. Ive heard of people using several base coats of shellac as well probably to improve the shine, but as I said I am yet to try it,

There is an article in the library of MIMF that I used as instructions on how to apply Tru-Oil. It wirked well. Go to the library and search fro Tru-Oil. The article I used has a guy describing finishing a mandolin, and getting very high gloss results.

Tru-oil is great for tool handles as well.I got a 500ml bottle from a gun shop in Adelaide a while ago.
