wood heater hearth
Hey, just wondering if anyone could tell me wether I i need special bricks and mortar to lay a foundation for an old slow combustion stove I'm about to install. It will sit on a brick floor with a brick wall behind, if that makes any difference. Thanks.

I wouldn't think it really mattered as long as there is no direct flame or extremely high temperatures.

Check with your local council as regulations are quite stringent. And an inadvertent breach of the rules could invalidate your insurance.
I put one in ten+ years ago but the rules have tightened since then and I do not know the current ones.
Cheers

The local council sent me a set of guidelines when I enquired about this a few years ago. Mostly the requirements were distances from anything flammable rather than specifying actual materials - it's either flammable or it isn't and it's the measurements they were worried about.
