Hi, I am currently planning on renovating my bathroom and need to replace the bath surround which I am planning to tile with ceramic tiles. What are the best materials / wall coverings to use that are favourable to then tile onto, in this situation? The walls them selves are wooden VJ's. Any help / Advise would be greatly appreciated. Any of the fibre-cement wet area wallboards (eg 6.5mm Villaboard by Hardies) provide an excellent tiling substrate and suffer no lasting damage from a bit of stray water.
I am also currently renovating an en suite and after looking into this very topic, I am going with the Hardie 6mm Villaboard myself.
Seems to be the popular choice for bathrooms and wet areas. Also, I respect the James Hardie website and the information they offer.
Go to the hardies webste (http://www.jameshardie.com.au). It has some excellent resources.
Look at the villaboard installation manual, and also the wet area construction manual (http://www.jameshardie.com.au/Smarte...aConstruction/. The site is full of good information if you go browsing around.
