I'm building my new workbench, the framework is pine, the top and the apron are nice Tassie Oak.
please help! Any suggestions on what I can do to the frame (such as staining it) to make it either 'A' look like tassie oak or 'B' not look like pine and complement the tassie oak top?
once I put in the bottom shelf, the only visible pine part of the bench will be the legs, so there isn't a lot of pine to conceal.
Paint the Pine green or brown or black or .....
Just stain the pine and lacquer it. Pine comes up pretty good if you choose a nice colour stain, maybe walnut would look good. Make a nice contrast I reckon. But then again, I've been wrong before. :) Just go ahead and do it. After all its going to get rough wear and tear and its made for practical purposes not aesthetic value. You could post a picture when its finished and lets see what it turned out like.
Mate I think your chances of making pine look like Tassie oak are slim to zero.
As the others have suggested, I would go for a dark stain (walnut is nice - I also like the Wattyl Traditional Cedar) and go for the contrast look.
