UBeaut BB is more than just woodwork to me

A couple of events over the last week prompted me to start this thread.

Apart from Woodwork, how has the Bulletin Board helped you and allowed you to help others?

My examples include the wonderful turnout at Steve's funeral and the wonderful hospitality Jow (John & Janet) are extending to my Meg in the UK. She is staying with them for a week.

Then there are all the friendships where people drop in to see each other and help each other out.

I'm not sure whether Neil envisaged this aspect of the Bulletin Board but it is working very well thanks to his efforts.

I've met people online and in person, that I would never have had the chance to meet outside of the Forum. I have been supported, encouraged, laughed with, accepted and understood. And then there's the woodwork side :)

I wouldn't be the up and coming woodworker I am today, without this forum. So yes, I'll happily give back or pay it forward wherever and whenever I can.

The original question "helped me to help others...." Gave Rowan and daughter a lift to hospital one night.

Would I do this or similar again? Too right!

I have to agree, I have met some really nice people here and some of the friendships will last for ever.

It also relieves the stress every night reading and talking to you bunch of reprobates. :D

Certainly learnt a lot and made friends with heaps of members :2tsup: . Without the forum I would still be using the tools the wrong way, have no DC system, and still be in the stone age when it comes to woodworking (not the same as the dark side :p ). My shelf of finishes would also look bare :U

I am still using tools the wrong way, but so what? This forum has resulted in heaps of friends and bigger heaps of good ideas. Great mates, a bunch of Larrakins, several Galahs, impressive sheilas and blokes. What more could you want?

I must say I have been impressed with the forums here in a number of ways.

First off software that runs it is the best I have seen for the purpose (been looking at BBSs since Ward Christensen put up the first one in Chicago :-) and the organization is excellent.

The folks here are stellar and it is more than just a bbs, it is a community that seems to work - rare and wonderful IMO).
