Help - Sealing T&G verandah floor

We are about to open up the verandah on our old Queenslander. The flooring is T&G (hardwood - not sure what) and we are concerned about what will happen when it is exposed to the weather. The verandah will be covered, but obviously some rain will get in. We were hoping to use tung oil or similar as a finish, and bought Organoil Decking Oil, but their website says 'NOT suitable for T&G' (Not on the can, interestingly enough!).
Is oil not suitable because timber will still expand etc? Even when the floor is old (20 yrs+)?
We need to make a decision on this quickly, so 'Help!' please. Would a polyurethane finish be better - or is the whole thing impractical without taking up the T&G and laying decking?

have a look at a house that has exposed T&G on the verandah. There will be gaps in it. Basically, There is nothing that will stop the T&G from opening up. Accept it or replace it with Pencil round decking.

I was told that a T&G verandah floor with gaps gives the house a feel of familiar comfort. Like slipping on an old comfortable pair of boots after having been wearing new shoes all day. It is the Arrrrrrrrrrrh (sighing) factor of coming home to an old friend.
It holds memories from days of kids riding tricycles up and down the verandah when it is raining outside. Tying the rowing boat to the verandah post when moving stuff out of the house during the floods. Photos of the eldest daughter and the wedding party leaving for the church by the front steps off of the verandah. Sunday mornings sitting on the verandah reading the paper that the paperboy just sold you.

These are the memories and things verandahs need to tell people. I want a verandah that talks to me. Not one that looks 100% new all the time and appears not to be lived on.

Trev, I saw everything you just said. Where i come from, we did all that and had the cane fields to. The porch is a australian icon.

To answer the question of the thread starter, Oil is one of the best products to use,Their are other finishes you can use, but you already have the product to use.oragan d/oil. Go ahead and use it .
