The sky was like this all of yesterday too, I just walked down the street to buy the morning paper and feel like I have smoked a truck load of ciggies.

Buggar, that's too bad Al. :( I used to see skies like that sometimes in Arizona, when I lived there. Do your bush fires tend to burn themselves out? Or do you blokes actually try to put them out? It can use up a lot of water trying to fight them.
I think they are concentrating on saving property, the fires are all in unaccessible places up the mountains.

Yesterday was clear with a bit of haze in the distance, thismorning reminds me of a Birmingham fog from the 60's.
I've got a wog and this isn't helping one bit, coughing like buggery, cars coming down the road with the headlights on, fortunately haven't heard any sirens.

We have remained fairly clear but today the smoke is pretty much every where. Sale is surrounded by irrigated pasture and although lack of water has left a few brown paddocks the conditions to get fire here would be unimaginable. The towns closer to the mountains are a different matter, and most of those people are looking well prepared and fire plans are in place, it's all in the hands of the weather, we could see the fires brought under control with containment lines or a break out who knows. With 170,000 hectares gone allready and a fire front likely to reach 100k's lets hope we don't see another massive loss like 1983 or 1939, at least these days the equipment is a lot better and the management of these disasters a lot better co-ordinated. Although there is still no immediate sign of hugs and kisses between DSE and the CFA they do at least work together.
Not much different down here in S.E. Melbourne.
I went out to get some groceries this morning at around 07:30 and one could see and smell the smoke.
I hope WB & Meg are ok, and all the other folk close to the fires.

Well it did clear a bit today, if I squinted in the right way I almost thought I saw the sky today.
The smoke will come back as the air cools tonight I expect.

Well this morning at 9 am the smoke and heat were back, it was about 30 degrees C and you could hardly see.
Then the wind picked up and blew some of the smoke away, but with the wind came the heat, 41c. :eek:
I just did a search on BOM and it seems the fire affected places may get some rain.

Woke up to 17°C & rain this morning. :D
When to inlaw relos place for breakfast to catch up 'cos they will be away for Christmas.
Drizzled all morning, just fine for a hot cooked Sunday breaky. :D

It has stopped raining but still very overcast & could start again any time.
It has made it up to 20°C.... good weather to be in the shed turning a big lump of Mango. :)
I just stopped for a cuppa, nearly finished, will post some pics later. ;)
