Bungendore Wood Works

Drove out to Bungendore today to have a look at the wood works gallery, must say they have some impressive work in there. There are a lot of talented woodies out there and im envious of all their talents.

Weather was a bit cool, but still a good day to wander around the town looking at some of the old buildings. There is a nice leather shop and antique shop to browse around too.

On the road to Bungendore we noticed a lot of stuffed animals tied/nailed to various tree for a few km's ... anyone know the cause for this, or did someone do it and others just continued? One of Zed's relations was even hanging from one of the trees :D

If I recall the Cronicle, a local rag ran a story on it some time ago. I think someone found a stuffed toy and nailed it up but it developed into a bit of a joke and has escalated from there.

Personally I don't get it but no harm to me so what the hey.....

I was just browsing at the work there, dont think you'll be seeing anything of mine in there.

On the note of the teddies... one story from the ABC website is that the first bear was erected as a memorial by the class ates of a child who had been tragically killed. Council instructed to take the bears down and the locals responded by putting more bears up.

On another note, I am in the process of making Bungendore my new home and should be signing contracts soon. So I get ready access to a great source of inspiration. Dont think you will be seeing any of my work in there though.

Were down there a couple of weeks ago for floriade and stopped in on our way home. Quite impressive. I only had a short time there unfortunately. Hope to get down there again with some more time to drool.

BTW some nice wineries near by as well. We went to Lark hill on the way back and I had my first wine tasting experience. Quite cool if not a little daunting. Spitting wine in front of your wife and a stranger is a bit weird :o :o

Thanks Oges. Baz, we will be moving out to Elmslea. Have a 900 square block which should keep the dog and kids happy, and I have a 6x9 shed in pieces in my backyard at the moment just waiting for me to put it up and fill it up. Half a garage just isnt cutting it for me at the moment.

Funnily enough I was just out at the woodworks today. I try and get out there everytime I am in Canberra. Its not like its a long drive. And certainly some great work. The timber clocks are fascinating.
And I also noticed the bears on the trees, oddly enough the big white gorilla stood out most! :D

I try to get out there once a year or so, great stuff isn't it - like the 'wall of boots' too must have taken ages and some species I've never even heard of..

I've heard the bear stories , to add further mystery there is also a thing called 'pooh corner' halfway down Brown Mt on the way to the coast Batemans Bay but don't look too close coz you're on a hairpin - maybe they're migrating...

Isnt it called the Clyde Mountain? Brown mountain is on the way to woolongong I think....

People put some real efforts into the displays they put up at Pooh Corner, pity they only last a week or two before they are vandalised :mad:

BTW I think the hole in the rock wall at pooh corner was made to fill with explosives during WW2, It was done so that if the coast were invaded they could 'blow the road' preventing them getting inland.... or so I was told.....

yeah i recall seeing that on a trip to the coast a few years back, not been past bungendore yet since moving to here. Warmer weather now so might be time for a trip soon.
