Just curious as to how long ago "fibro sheet" which was harmful to your health unless caution was used when working with the product was made and distributed in Australia. Would stuff which was sold and used in 1991 be harmful to your health?.

Unfortuneatly stuff that is imported from China today contains asbestos.
Oz stuff from 1991 should be safe.

Al is right.
All CSR and Hardies products after 1986 (1987 for brake products) were made without asbestos.
So (working carefully) expose a panel that has the maker's mark on it and you can contact them to make sure.

Christ thats scary! Isnt it amazing the lack of ethics in some parts of the corporate world. Just plain immoral, not to mention short sighted.
Sorry to put a spanner in the works, but alternative materials such as Kaowool are proven to be just as hazardous as asbestos when lodged in our lungs, man made ceramic fibres under a microscope also have small barbs much like asbestos making it near impossible for our lungs to dislodge them.
Doesn't matter what type of board or material I cut, always try and stabilize the stuff by spraying water on it and wearing a decent filter.
production of Hardy weatherboards containing asbestos might (I say might) have ceased in 1896/7 - but how long did it lie in the builders yard before I bought it in 1991. . .
I bought some quite recently (weeks ago) and it was scruffy - musta been lying the builders yard for yonks to get that scruffy
