I'm just wondering if anyone knows of a non-slip treatment for vinyl and tile floors? (No, spilling a puddle of coke is not what I was after:rolleyes: ). My dad had a bit of a fall last week, nothing too serious, but if I can make the floor less slippery then I'd feel a lot more at ease. I dropped into one of the floor covering show rooms but they said there was no such animal. It doen't need to make it sticky, just to add some friction. I look forward to any suggestions.

only practicle solution is to change your dad's shoes to ones with non slip soles
the other issue is why did he fall over. With my dad, he doesn't so much slip as trip when he catches one foot behind the other

Try a cleaning supplies shop.
There is a product but i cant remember the name of it, will try and get there in the next few days to if i can get a product name.

Go to one of the big tile supply places. OK I know you're in Cairns and there aren't any, but one of the trade suppliers like Beaumonts.
There are a number of perfectly clear paint on products that are available to increase the slip resistant ratings of floor tiles, and they work.
They even go over full gloss ones without taking the gloss off, I have no idea how they work, but they do.
I suspect they'd do the trick on vinyl as well.
If you don't have any luck let me know and I'll make a call or two.

Yep, there is at least one product - I used it at the start of the year on a customer's high gloss tiled floors, but I am darned if I can recall the name. It left a reasonably shiny finish and certainly stopped the slip. Don;t know how long these finishes last though?

This might not be suitable for large areas, but for small ones like the toilet etc, what about those sticky grip lines (don't think that's probably ther ight name....) that you put in the bath and shower? They are probably removable when not needed.

Mick I used a product many years back on a tiled bathroom floor in a home that we were converting for wheelchair access.
I knew I still had some, but having found it I see it says 'not suitable on slate or vinyl.'
Anyway - it's called 'Anti Slip Domestic'. Made by Slip Resistant Surfaces Pty. Ltd. in Belmore NSW
Says on the label - Bathrooms, Pool Surrounds, Patios, Steps etc.
1 Lit. covers 10sq met.
Clear liquid.

don't really want to go with the non-skid strips as they look a bit industrial and they may just cause a trip as they're ever so slightly raised. Watching how people with difficulty walking often barely clear the floor with their feet, I feel it's better to try to keep the floor as level as possible. Thanks anyway.

Worse comes to worse threre is a vinyl that has a slip proof coating on it.
We put some at the front door of the shop and when you walk in when it is wet there is none of the slipping you are on about.
