Hi
I have removed carpets etc and am makign repairs to baltic (thanks for that info BTW) floors. However the previous owners have removed fireplaces, chimney etc but left a concrete slab in the corner of each room where the old fireplaces were. Any ideas on what to do - we can't install fireplaces and the floor joists are built around the slab of cocrete.

What about grinding and polishing the concrete then a coat of lacquer over the top? Make it into a feature.
Have to build on top , wine storage, water feature , cabinet, etc :confused:

Now to construct a 1920s style corner cupboard or shelving unit!!!
Samhorr, I scabbed the granite cutouts from a mates kitchen sink and cooktop - layed a new reinforced slab and installed the granite flush with the boards, seal around it with black sikaflex... looks good, I'll try to post some photos

you could cut the concrete down (dusty and noisy but do-able) and direct stick some matching flooring on top of the concrete.

as the house is full of dust and grit anyway who'd notice a bit more
