I am renovating an old house and wish to add a deck which will be about 1.8M above ground level. Can anyone tell me the Aust. Building Code regulation regarding the height of handrails for this deck!
Thanks,
Tarty

must be 1m high any spacing must not exceed 125mm, ie a 125mm sphere must not be allowed to pass through.
Thanks Dan 574
I thought that was it but someone told me 1100 - I thought that was a bit OTT

It's something like that for swimming pools / spas. May also be for higher drops, but that is a guess.
All our handrails(aust standard)at work are about 900 high I think.
Stick with Dan ...... 1000mm above finished floor level, i.e. above the decking boards not the joists. There have been cases where people have sued as the handrail 1000mm bolted to the bare slab and then with the flooring it was only 980mm above the finished floor level.
If you plan on using horizontal wire there are levels of deflection that will need to be taken into account.
Handrail must be 1000mm high and a maximum of 100 mm under the bottom rail so the balustrade can actually 900mm + the 100mm that makes it 1000mm from the deck.
sorry barry the gap under can be up to 125mm, the sphere thing as I first posted. There are certain things that are needed if its above 4m. Its 1m above the floor height.
Thats great where do you buy the 125mm sphere things to test all the hand rails that I sell every day.Quote:
