I've got a huon table in the pipeworks but iam a bit concerned about how well the top will go with scratches.
Would a good polish of some sort be ok or would it be better to do a glass top?

If you finish it in oil you can just finish it again once its scratched.:)
Grab a piece of huon and try burnishing with china wood oil.
Or put a sheet of glass over the )
Glass top.
let it get its own Patina.
I reckon your right PTC
we have an original art deco style kitchen table from the 20's ( ) that has 19mm tas oak boards for the top and has had a glass top for all that time. No ill effects at all.
I would have thought that the difference in moisture top and bottom would have been a prob but apparently not.:D
good luck
But with a glass top you can't run your hand across that amazing satin feel of huon pine. Who cares about a few scratches anyway ? just think of the pleasure you will get from getting out the wax and the steel wool to touch up the surface now and then.
