Can I set up a wepage so its address doesn't show in browser address panel?

First why would you want to do it in the first place?

You can do it by putting your web page in a web page which contains a number of frames.

That's not going to do it, Scott because it will still have something in the Address box. There's no way I know of that you can prevent it, other than spawning a new browser window from Javascript and telling it to supress the Location box (window.open method).

If Bob just wants the actual page address hidden, he could do it with frames as you say or by using forms to pass variables to a default.asp or php page but it will still show his web site address.

Silent you are absolutely right mate. A new browser is with hidden toolbox is a go too.

What I was trying to show Bob was how to hide the URL of a particular webpage.

Bob whatever method you use you still need a web address to start with.

You could just leave it as an IP address if you have a dedicated IP address.

There you go Bob, you've got three developers on tap waiting for more info on what you are trying to do. It doesn't get any better than that. I usually charge $135 per hour for this sort of thing ;)

My guess is that it is to do with eBooks. I assume that it is to stop people reaccessing a site with your downloads on it?

If that is the case, a simple secure page would be easier to set up. i.e. only allow people with a password to access it, when you click the link, you supply them with a password (or enable their computer with a cookie), then simply have this set to change the password frequently.

Mind you, if you want it for another reason, well, I dunno... :)

I don't want to setup a 1 time only download as it would create problems if the system hiccups part way through a download.

But I don't want a permanent download site where all the purchasers network friends just keep going to the download area. If I could hide the url it might slow hackers down.

I can enable server password protection so I'll probably go that way and change passwords and maybe webpage names etc regularly.

I bought an ebook about gothic architecture ( whmamamamama, the bells, the bells) some time ago, and they linked to a remote server who I had to give my card details to etc.

I prefer to use paypal or direct deposit so I don't need to mess around with a cart etc. If I decided to use a cart I would use a paypal cart.

Down the track I'll set up an auto respoder so as soon as an ebook is paid for through paypal the buyer will receive a download link plus access details.
Don't think thats possible with direct depost.

Need to go that way as some of my ebooks are over 20mb so I can't email them reliably
