Late night

Hey there,
2.15, just got in from the shed, a job that needs to be delivered yesterday:p. Shame I've got to be up and going by 6.15.
No woodwork from my end, but some nice red cedar involved. I was assembling some laser cut stainless steel with fibre composite, mounted on wooden bases. I'll try to post some piccies tomorrow.
Confirmed tonight that epoxy (ie. Araldite) can be cleaned up with mineral turps before it has set, at least on s/s. However I can't get the stink off my hands, despite hand cleaner and soap:mad: . Any suggestions? Besides wearing decent gloves...

Rubbing them in dog poo will make the epoxy smell quite undiscernable.

(I guess I shouldn't have done that to someone who is obviously tired! :D )

Boatcraft make a citrus handcleaner which is (theoretically) designed for epoxy, and it actually does a good job. You'll smell like oranges for ten minutes though.

Solvol always works for me. At the same time I could be ignoring the after smell, but often I cook soon after cleaning up and don't notice the turps.:confused:

Vinegar gets rid of uncured epoxy amazingly fast but you will smell like a pickled onion for a while..... oranges or onions? Your pick!

Actually it REALLY works well.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll definitely try vinegar for cleanup, sound heaps better than turps. Heard today of using ethanol for cleanup especially on stainless, but yet to try it out.
You know those jobs that were due yesterday, there's only one thing worse...
when you work like the clappers, doing a rushed job with the usual mistakes instead of taking your methodical time, go to deliver it...and find out it could have waited for a day or two!!:mad: :mad: :mad: &^%$##@*:mad:

In another thread on hand cleaning a couple of people recommended shaving cream for getting the smell off your hands.

Maybe try the vinegar to get the goop off & then shaving cream to get the vinegar smell off.

I tried the shaving cream and it does work. No frills generic brand too!

Andy, the best thing I have found for epoxy is to not let it get anywhere it's not supposed to be in the first place, so I always wear some gloves.

Helps that a good friend here imports the things, so I always have a box or three on hand. ;)

I told all this to my girlfriend.

She followed up with...

"And if the smell of the shaving cream is annoying, well I have heard that epoxy can get rid of it!" :D ;)

Years ago a mate of mine who was a plumber had great bit of kit for odorous hands..... stainless steel soap!

Well it was a lump of stainless that was shaped like a small cake of soap. It obviously did nothing to clean your hands but rubbing the metal could noticeably reduce the smell. Apparently it affects the sulfur that causes (some types) of odor.

Theoretical you should be able to do the same by rubbing your hands on the stainless steel laundry tub as you wash up. But it never seems to work as well.

Well i just use elcheapo clothes washing powder and it works great to get anything of me hands and lemony fresh too
