My sister is looking to move to Airlie Beach (the Whitsundays) permanently. She need to move about a removalist's truck worth of furniture from Sydney.
Any ideas on the most economical method to move the furniture. She has tried the removalist's and has received a quote for $4050. Is this in the ballpark or are they dreamin'.
Any help will be gratefully received.
Check the local hire firms - a DIY move. Some are at no charge for the detination, if return hires are possible. This is like hire-car firms.
YOU do all the packing, insuring, driving. If DIY driver for the vehicle is available it will certainly save costs.
Could also be fun.
Garage sales also allow updating of home electrical items.
I would say that they are dreaming. Suggest she gets some more quotes. If she has the time, try the FNQ guys. If they move someone from Airlie to Syd, they don't wanna go back empty.
Finally, and I know its a pain, but take over the negs yourself. As you would well know, you gotta take a hard assed approach. $ are $'s.
I'm sure there are a lot of poeple out there who would do it for around $3K, you just have to find them, then monster them.

I was going to give you the name and number of a bloke I've used in the past to shift stuff, but he's no longer in the phone book:rolleyes: . Another alternative is renting a container and packing that full and then getting the container shifted. Some freight companies offer this service. Alternatively if you can buya cheap container you could sell it at the other end (if it's cheap enough I'd shift it up here. I have a freight account with QRail and could probably get a price for shifting a container from Sydney to Airlie Beach if you like-PM me if I can help.

How old is she? She could always hire a 3 tonner from Thrifty, Budget etc. They hold a sh*t load, and come with a lift as well. That would come in under $2000 I reckon

Thank you for your help guys. What ended up happening was quite fortunate for my sister.
She rang Cesjac removals (Qld based) who only had about a third or half a load going to Cairns. She got to fill the rest of the truck (20 cubic metres) for only $1400.
The guys were fantastic, so I helped them load up. I'd certainly recommend them to anyone who needs a removalist.
