HELP - IT Guru wanted to set up remote

OK all you IT Gurus I need to do a remote link from my home computer to the factory one and reverse. I know it is supposedly an easy thing to do and I even have a couple of programs to do it with but do you think that I can get it to work? Not on your Nelly.

I need help by way of someone to do it for me. Not someone to tell me how to do it. Have tried that and it doesn't work. I need a physical human being brain to be here and do it for me. I am even willing to shell out with some shekels to anyone who can do it for me. If you think you can do it don't bother coming I only want someone who knows they can do it.

I really don't have enough hours in the day to be messing around with this even though it is probably going to save me a number of hours a week once it is done.

Not sure I can come physically Neil. I have set up PcAnywhere a couple of times and it works a treat, wasn't too hard either. If that's what you're using, I might be able to remember enough to help over the phone.

Neil, might be a good idea to mention what sort of connection you are after. I'd guess you are talking VPN over the internet? What hardware is at each end of the link? etc.

Neil, I am up the road in Hoppers. I run a home network and website and use a VPN when away sometimes. I found it a pain to set up, though at the time I could afford to play around with it.

I have used PC-Anywhere from overseas back to Oz over an encryption device and was surprised at just how easily it could be set up, it worked flawlessy for four years.

If you are only going to log in from home it may be easier to use PC-Anywhere, that way YOU can configure it (and repair it later if need be, without waiting till Monday when the tech is back on deck).
The later versions of PC-Anywhere I think are ubiquitous, allowing connection over the internet or an intranet.

In general, I no longer like "Nortons" products as they have been bastardised by Symantec, but PC-Anywhere is an exception. Setting up a VPN, if done incorrectly, may open a security hole in your network.

I have been working on this problem up here too & yes, it has its problems.
I'm going to Brisbane later this month & will be looking at another product that has good VPN capabilitys.
I hope to install it between 2 of our offices up here in the next month or so.
I'll let you know how it goes.

P.S. don't worry about returning it, I don't use it anymore, SWMBO is always telling me what to do.

I set it up Thursday & have been testing it for a couple of days.

It even works over ISDN.

The only bug I have found so far happens if you select the default printer to be your local printer where you log in from, it doesn't reset the default back to normal when you disconnect, instead, the default ends up as something else in the list of printers.
I now know to reset the default printer before I disconnect.

I also set it up. It has worked flawlessy over the internet from both 26k and 48k connections. It has also worked at home over the network and has allowed me to run the server over a wireless connection too.
