another left field question

its all OK my head is not coming off, its just I think way out left field ideas at times.

The campsite I manager is as always very short of $$$ and I want to landscape a run down sloping bank. This only falls about 1.5 m but in dreaming about turning it into a kids 'treasure' garden from things they find on our beach, I had the idea of creating several layers in height, all safe enough for kids to play on.
The money is not available but I have access to a local farmers tractor with scoop & bucket so we can collect sand.

Now if anyone here is involved or knows something about sandbags as used in flood retention please speak up, how long would the last layered upon each other, sometimes cross ways filled with sand.

Normal hessian sandbags might last a year provided they are not disturbed, less than that if kids are walking and climbing on them.

There are sandbag systems especially designed for erosion control often used on water fronts, I put a heap of these in a few years ago. The ones I was involved with held at least 500kg of sand so you need an excavator or similar to fill and shift them.

also be aware any councils and EPA may get upset if you just start scooping up sand with your tractor with out permission

:D we have a special arrangement with our council. saying no more but all above board and legal...as long as you dont scratch the surface.

What about old tyres. Should last a hundred years or so? Also local farmers should have access to large logs/trees?

thamks Bob, but have you seen any vids on earthships, (houses built with tyres) yee gawds the amount of effort packing and ramming dirt under the lip. err no thanks.
