We inherited a small shop from my uncle. Now my 8yr-old son wants some tools for Christmas…
I don’t know what is the best way to help a youngster get started.

As to getting an 8 year old started get him a small saw. Tenon saw would be fine. A hammer and some nails. A few bits of boards to chop up too. The internet will have plenty wood projects kids can do as well. At age 6 my granddad gave me a saw, hammer and nails and I set about making big bits of wood into small bits then loaded them up with nails. Great fun. I did have a few bruised fingers and the odd bit of blood now and then too but I learned that tools can hurt you if you dont use them the right way.
Looking back at that has me wondering if my woodwork has improved all that much.:D
