Hi, I have red pine doors that have been professionally stripped. They are a beautiful red colour and I have heard that you should use a water based (not spirit based) stain. Apparently the spirit stain makes the wood go much darker?
Any ideas ?

Why do you want to stain red pine?
It has a beautiful colour as it is?
Al
do you mean a clear varnish when you say stain?
Yes, that's what I meant mainly, but the rest of the wood has a very light stain and when I was trying to match up a skirting board it was really difficult.
Matching is really a job for professionals.
I've not played with red pine but pine in general takes spirit stains unevenly.
