guys
our house has brass door knobs every where they have been varnished probably at the factory they came from and it is peeling off .
what is the best way to remove the varnish so swmbo can clean the handles to her hearts content and not complain about the varnish

Paint thinners or acetone.
TAKE them OFF before any attempt at removing the varnish or risk the wrath of SWMBO.
Paint stripper. If you want the shine to last once you have polished them, they will need a new coat of 'Incralac' from B#!ni%*s

Be careful if you choose paint stripper, make sure that none of the chemicals in it can discolour the brass!
If they are solid brass then no prob's if they are plated then the plating will eventually wear from continued polishing. Either way I think you may have a DIY job in the future, when SWMBO gets tired of polishing :D :DQuote:
