Wiring replacement

Hello guys, I am interested in rewiring my home wiring to replace the old knob and tube type. Since the knob and tube wiring involves serious insurance risks, I am looking for a company providing replacement wiring. I did come across a company named The Shock Doctors on the web ( Knob and Tube Wiring Replacement | Open Wiring Services Orillia | Shock Doctors ) and would like to get some feedback about them.

This is an Australian Woodworking forum and we don't have an electrical forum.

You could try asking at Renovate Forum, Renovate Forums where they do have an Electrical section.

Or better still a Canadian forum or similar where they would be more familiar with this type of wiring.

the cost will contain two main components
the wire
the labour required to install the wire. This is usually the majority of the cost. If minimizing the cost is an issue for you, some electricians will allow a homeowner to supply some of this labour.

a word of caution.
I don't know the situation in Canada, but between 2010 and 2013 approximately 4,000 km of really really dodgy wiring sourced from China was installed in Australia. Allegedly the insulation on this dodgy wiring has a life to deterioration of around 6 years.
For me, the take-home is to avoid cheap electrical wire.

IMHO there is a lot more to rewiring than just the electrical aspects.

Here in the US, there is a code requirement that the wiring inside the walls be secured every 2 feet. (1.6M) What this basically means is that the wall has to be opened up and then repaired. If the wiring is as old as you say (Knob and tube) the walls are probably lath and plaster. Before the advent of wall board or sheet rock, walls were laths nailed across the studs and then covered with a wet plaster (about the consistency of mortar). The repair of the walls will probably exceed the sparky cost by 2 or 3 times.
