Bricklayer has asked for a deposit... is this normal?

Hi All,

What is the industry norm in regards to paying tradies deposits please?

The job in question is a new front brick fence and I have been quoted approx. $5K.
I am providing the bricks and the skip bin.
Bricklayer is to provide sand, cement and other sundries to complete the job, in his quote.

The guy is due to start the job tomorrow and has just texted me asking for a $1350 deposit.
Should I be concerned?
