Saw blade/hole cutting/router advice needed.

Ok so a couple of things I need educating on.

1: I bought myself the ryobi one+ circular saw (I'm planning to buy a bigger one when I need one) to rip some sheets of 18mm laminate for the bookcase I'm building. But the blade only has 18 teeth so it's not going to give me the cleanest cut. And the 150mm blades that it takes are impossible to find other than the stock blade, but Irwin make a 24tooth 140mm blade. They both have a 10mm arbor.
I know i can't run a larger blade but is it ok to run a smaller blade. I know that I'll lose a bit of power and cutting depth but besides that will it be ok?

2: The bookcase I'm building will be made out of ikea billy bookcases, and it will also double as our TV unit. So I need to make holes in the sides of some shelves and also some half circles in the shelves for the cables from the different units to run through.
I was just going to buy a hole saw set, but because laminate is hard I know that after a couple cuts they would most like be shot. So I would have to get a heavy duty hole saw and I'd be looking at some $$$ just for one saw.
Then i started thinking about using a plunge router and a template to cut the holes instead.
How would you experienced guys tackle the job?
