insurance when - holiday house; hobby farm; o/s

have raised this issue before about a house unoccupied when renovating and didn't get much feedback at the time

but got to thinking about how do people insure:

• holiday homes (that aren't let out)
• hobby farms (that are only visited occasionally)
• empty homes when you are overseas for extended periods (and not rented out)

I am vary wary of insurance companies that might accept yr premium but then find something in the fine print (as I have done when reading the full policy)
