Fishy Brew

I wouldn't call myself a tea connoisseur however in the morning and night I'll brew some Orange Pekoe or Morning Red to relax and contemplate my next move. During the day I haven't got the time to make a brew and will rely on a tea bag to get my fix. I opened a fresh pack of tea bags yesterday and made a cuppa. Upon first sipping I reeled with disgust. My tea tasted like FISH! This is not the first time I've got this with Liptons so I Googled "My Tea tastes like fish" with no definitive explanations at all. So, my learned friends, any ideas? In the meantime I shall email Liptons for an explanation and report back here.

Only two things smell like old fish crates, and one of them's old fish crates.
The other must be tea bags.

I think that is the crux of your problem. Loose tea is the way to go. I understand your reluctance to make a pot, but just use one of those little single person infuser things.

I have recently started drinking tea again and like Lapsang Souchong: Smokey, a little reminiscent of billy tea but more so.

Having done some time in the consumer packaged food industry I would suggest some sort of cross contamination in the supply chain. That is your box of tea bags was next to a broken jar of anchovies of more likely Canola Oil somewhere between the time it was packed and when you brought it home and opened. Flavours travel fairly well across packaging.

1957, at my first scout camp as an initiation ceremony. They pretended it was tea and I couldn't taste the difference. :D

Never drank tea again unless the taste was diluted with so much milk that it was milk with tea rather then tea with milk. :D

I like my peppermint tea to have milk and honey. And no this is not the correct smiley :o it should be more like this :ohyaaa:

If you still have the dud tea bags, try contacting the local Liptons tea distribution arm - the contact details should be on the packet. You will probably have some very polite young person turn up on your door step with a consolation bag of products to exchange for the dud bags & a few questions about where you got the bags from. They will want to find out what happened as any manufacturer can't afford to have a batch of dud product go out into the market place - they may already be trying to recall that batch.

Some of the wimp milks (not the regular or low fat ones, but the skim and other chalk-derived faux milks) have a distinct fishy taste when they turn, and no other symptoms. Check the expiry date.

(sorry, but those milk substitutes are to milk as mud is to chocolate - same colour, and that's about it!)
